The longer this goes on
The more I fear. Not about terrorism, or a terrorist attack, Saddam Hussein or his thugish baathists....I FEAR WHAT WE ARE RAPIDLY EVOLVING INTO. We murdered 40 innocent people celebrating a wedding this morning. I read articles that suggest that torture is justified under certain circumstances. And the longer this goes on, the more insulated or desensitized we become to the atrocities of war, OUR atrocities.

How many of you are becoming more afraid of US and what our corrupt government is capable of than a terror attack????????

3. Bush's Willing Executioners?
I'm much more disturbed by the willingness of many Americans to treat this as something distant that's happening to a bunch of anonymous "towelheads."

We MUST win this election, or we're going to slide into the abyss.

4. Me, I just can't understand why people are not marching in Washington
for this administration to go and not waiting until Nov. So much more
harm will be done before Nov. We have become so harden to what is going on and it is very scary.

7. Marching, demonstrating
Is (sorry to say this as Bush labels all "activists" as focus groups) rather inneffective.

Too bad we could not mobilize to a worldwide general strike......terms - Bush must resign immediately. General elections to be held immediately. November is eons away...and people are dying. God I hate feeling so inneffective.

6. Since the Death of the Old Republic I've felt that way
(not that I discount for a moment what terrorists, working with or independant of the Imperial Family, could and would do to us)

Because once the Busheviks demonstrated in 2000 that Anerika was not free (even though for a little while longer we at the bottom have yet to se a marked change ion our own lives between freedom and Tyranny, so far) it was clear to me that no matter how much they tried to be "kinder and gentler" than Grandpa Prescott Bush's Business Partners, the Nazis, that such things are inevitable once Nazi-style propaganda is used and nazi style "extra-legal but still sort of legal" maneuvering to supplant Checks and Balances.

Like Mickey Mouse in "Fantasia", the Bushevik propagandists have awakened all the brooms and now they are dancing to a German Tune (Horst Wessel Song?)

What they don't realize it that it is impossible to be very much "kinder and gentler" than the original Nazis while copiously borrowing from their Propaganda Playbook.

Totalitarianism seeks its own level. Augutus leads to Tiberius leads inevitably to Caligula and Nero.

I haven't NOT felt that way since America left the Free World.

9. That's pretty profound
I hadn't thought of it in that way. But I guess you're right: fascism is, after all, fascism. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Great (if depressing) post.

8. with the deficit out of control, oil companies making record profits
while manipulating refining to push prices higher, and an economy heating up creating "thousands" of jobs in turn pushing interest rates ever higher

the thought that the GOP can ever really provide prosperity completely alludes me

We have been taught for so many years that being a beacon of light in an otherwise dark world is our manifest destiny, we treat everything as if it were for everyone else's good and that, as the great harbingers of good tidings, are beyond any evil acts.
If we dont wake up soon, our beacon of light will be blown out.
