Dershowitz on Scalia

I've been meaning to trasncribe this bit from when I was co-hosting the Majority Report and Dershowitz was on. sez
Dersh:

He's an interesting guy. His father was a teacher at Brooklyn college when I was there. His father was a proud
member of the American-Italian fascist party. And got his doctorate at Casa Italiano at Columbia at a time when in
order to get your doctorate you had to swear an oath to Mussolini. So he comes from an interesting background
and he went to a kind of military school in New York which was a place where any children of fascists were
educated. Therefore to call him a conservative - he's never expressed any conservative priniciples - he's a statist.
He's a man who is well in the tradition of Franco and Mussolini. Not Hitler. He's not an anti-Semite - there's no
bigotry or racism in him at all. But he is somebody who has these views which would have been very comfortable
in fascist Italy or fascist Spain.

1. Dershowitz is an ass.
He approves of torture, if the tortured person is Arab, and a suspected terrorist.

4. Agreed.
Wow! I thought Scalia was a bit extreme for a typical neocon. Now I know why.

Dershowitz may be an ass, but he's not a lying ass. He says what he thinks.

7. What he said was that IF torture was used, it should be
recognized, only be under certain conditions, be regulated, require specific permission (like a "torture"warrant).

I have to think that would be a lot more honest than what's been going on at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib.

Torturing in secrecy corrupts everyone.

Don't flame! I'm not saying I support torture! I'm just saying that acknowledging it openly and calling it what it is, is a lot more honest.
