On the one hand, the official administration position is that these atrocities are the result of the individual acts of a few bad apples. The allegations that the torture was widespread is the result of distortions and exagerations by the liberal mass media.

On the other hand, I understand that the religious right attributes the atrocities to the liberal mass media and graphic depictions of sex and violence on television. Now, if this is true, then this would be inconsistent with the idea that there are few bad apples, which the liberal media is exagerating, since the mass media by definition has a few more viewers than the prison staff at Abu Ghuraib.

Bottom line: Its the fault of the liberal media bogey-man.
