Smallville a gay allegory
In a year where shows with homosexual characters have taken a ride of the rails, Smallville has quietly told the very real story of growing up different in a small town. Clark, due to having to keep his powers a secret ends up lying to everyone he is trying to be a friend with. The analogy can be taken further than I imagine the creators of the series wish to take it, but clearly this show is about among other things the toxicity of keeping secrets.

Science fiction of takes us to where he need to go when we otherwise can't. Now if we could just see a real gay on TV as complex as Clark.

1. There Is a Ton of Subtextual Homoeroticism Between Clark and Lex
Seriously. There are websites and endless fanfics devoted to it.

Check out http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com and their excellent recaps for some hilarious -- and IMO at least partially accurate -- interpretations.

3. I have to say
that I wouldn't kick either one out of my bed. And yes, I agree there is some homoerotocism there.

9. You know some people read homoeroticism into everything...
I was at my therapist, and I was telling him about my recurring dream with Pedro the cabana boy, where we oil each other down and I wake up with my soldier standing at attention. And that fucking shrink tried saying the dream may indicate I'm a repressed homosexual! Do believe that quack? Like I said, some people can read homoeroticism into anything.

2. Like all allegory, you get out of it what you bring into it.

If you're straight, Dick Grayson is just Bruce Wayne's ward. Nothing more to it, in that case.

Example: Republicans justifying war with The Lord of the Rings, when Tolkien abhorred war AND allegory.

yeah, I mean a grown man wearing long-johns and a leather cowl with matching cape, sliding down a bat pole, and crusing Gotham City with a 15 year old boy at night ... how could anyone see anything gay there??? :D

5. If you make the wearing tights/gay association...
...then everyone who ever drew/read comics is gay.

Besides, women look so much better in tights...
