May 19, boycott Big Oil by not filling up.....
...I drove to work today and back (14 miles round trip, used a half gallon of gas, est.), that was it. I last filled up on Thursday a week ago and usually I fill up once a week. However, I avoided riving unnecessarily during the past six days and as a result my gas gauge is right at one half. Of course, that does not mean I have a half a tank of gas left, the gauges are deceiving. But I think I can make it to Sunday or even Monday before I have to get gas. So, it's not so much a boycott as it is conscientious conserving and avoiding all unnecessary driving. My next measure will be car pooling. That's a little tougher to accomplish as I'm in a small office, but I'll figure out a way. Oh, I'm also going easier on the peddle, slower highway speeds and slower accelerating. Drop by drop, I guess it helps. Here in Orlando Florida, the prices are right at $1.999 per gallon for reg unleaded.

1. The one-day boycott doesn't mean anything to them...
Sorry, but it's not a dent to them. Check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/nogas.asp
It doesn't do anything to just adjust your purchasing by a day. What *can* make a difference is to use less gas overall, carpool, bike, and drive more fuel-efficient cars. You seem to be on the right track with driving less, thinking more about how you drive, planning to carpool, etc. Those are the things that will start to make a difference. Shifting purchasing days doesn't.

2. Good for you for avoiding unnecessary driving.
While the boycott in and of itself won't have any effect, it does get people thinking about their driving habits, and that's a good thing. If you live in an urban area, your local transit agency may operate a van-pool program. They can put you in touch with others who work near you and are interested in carpooling.

3. I noticed people who are usually apolitical got involved in this
one day boycott.

I have a group of friends who usually run from political discussion or action but were knowledgeable about and riled up about not buying gas today.

If nothing else, it seems to have stirred some people up who are normally reticent to get involved.
