If Bush gets back in the draft will be brought back...for men only
Let's put aside the issues of whether or not Baby Bush gets 4 more years, as well as the issue of whether or not he will bring back the draft at all. He will bring back the draft if he gets another term.
For the purposes of this post, let us also operate on the assumption that he gets a second term.

Many liberals who do favor the draft, either for reasons of social engineering or to up the opposition to the war in Iraq, have called for subjecting women to the draft. That will not happen if we get a Republican draft, and there is a reason for that. The religious right, the base of today's Republican Party is very opposed to putting women into a wartime role, other than that of domestic caretaker. They never much liked the idea of women in the military in the first place, but grudgingly went along with it. For them to accept conscription of women would be an admission that men and women have equal responsibilities in wartime. These are people with very old-fashioned beliefs about what they believe to be the proper roles of men in a society and women in a society. When the Bush Administration asks Congress for a draft early in 2005, many liberals will try to make egalitarian arguments about the need to draft women, but the religious right will make it clear that they will have none of that. They will not permit women to be subject to a draft and I believe the Republican Congress and Administration will follow.

1. I think you are correct.
They are already floating the idea that women do not belong in the military. Ann Coulter and Cal Thomas have been busy blaming the torture in Iraqi prisons on women in the military.

They think if they repeat this often enough, people will begin to oppose women in the military, and in the future, females being subject to a draft.

My kids are all in their twenties. Only one of them is male. I do not want to see any of them drafted. But this is just another one of their stupid, medieval ideas.

2. I also think you are correct
for slightly different reasons.

Bush has two daughters, no sons.

This war is not going to cost him personally if he can help it.

3. Keep thinking that, but I think any new draft will be all-inclusive.

6. You are probably right
The RR would totally freak out if women became up for draft.
It would probably cause a split in the Republican party.

7. It will be men and women, up to age 34.
The following threads provide the links to all the information you need. If Bush steals the election again, there will be a draft and it will be devastating.

8. Not me it won't be
I will just say what Dick Cheney said in the 1960's if Uncle Sam comes calling for me: "I have other priorities than military service".

And I do. I have a dissertation to finish, bills to pay and my health to maintain. I don't have the time or inclination to be called upon to kill a bunch of Iraqis and butt rape innocent prisoners.

11. I think you're incorrect on this...
Last night's Nightline was all about women in the military... they reported that the military has basically said that women are so crucial now, that they couldn't have conducted this war without them. (Well, duh, what with Rumsfeld sending in such a comparatively tiny force, but that's another thread.)

It's all about boots on the ground, and I wouldn't bet on women being excluded from the draft.

WASHINGTON—The chief of the U.S. Selective Service System has proposed registering women for the military draft and requiring that young Americans regularly inform the government about whether they have training in niche specialties needed in the armed services.

The proposal, which the agency's acting director Lewis Brodsky presented to senior Pentagon officials just before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, also seeks to extend the age of draft registration to 34, up from 25.

-snip-

"In line with today's needs, the Selective Service System's structure, programs and activities should be re-engineered toward maintaining a national inventory of American men and, for the first time, women, ages 18 through 34, with an added focus on identifying individuals with critical skills," the agency said in a Feb. 11, 2003, proposal presented to Pentagon officials.
