chalabi theory
Chalabi has for long had ties with top levels of us government, including intelligence services. It seems to me all possible that this whole mess is a set up. They are having Chalabi act like he isn't a US puppet, so he will be able to be the future president of iraq. We will then "reluctantly" agree to him being the next leader after people think he isn't our puppet. Just a thought...

1. And it's a good one
Especially in light of the fact that - who's going to step up to US appointed leader when a shortened life span is guaranteed.

U.S. Troops Raid Home of Iraqi Council Member
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: May 20, 2004

Filed at 11:12 a.m. ET

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- U.S. soldiers and Iraqi police raided the residence of longtime American ally Ahmad Chalabi on Thursday, and aides accused the Americans of trying to pressure him to stop complaining about U.S. plans for Iraq after sovereignty is transferred in about six weeks.

American officials here have complained privately that Chalabi is interfering with a U.S. investigation into allegations that Saddam Hussein's regime skimmed millions of dollars in oil revenues during the U.N.-run oil-for-food program.

But coalition spokesman Dan Senor said that investigation has ``nothing to do with what transpired today'' and that Chalabi and his organization, the Iraqi National Congress, were not the targets.

A senior coalition official said on condition of anonymity that an Iraqi judge had issued several warrants and the details would be released later.<snip>

3. I swear I thought the same thing this morning
his advocacy for Iraq vs the US, and then ditching by the US - could be a clever way to make him palatable to Iraqis. I think the Iraqis, however, will be suspecting this as well.

4. I thought of that, too.
But Chalabi has apparently stabbed the neocons in the back by cozying up to Iran (which supports Hizbollah) and stepping away from a promise to make the new Iraq Israel-friendly. Chalabi may wind up in a stronger position because of this, but that won't necessarily be good news to the neocons.

5. As I understand it, Chalabi had supporters in the VP's office and the
Pentagon while the State Department and CIA were very leary of this guy.

I am inclined to think the opposite. I think the hawks were so desperate for this war, they embraced Chalabi because he was telling them what they wanted to hear (which was obviously not true). Now that the administration doesn't have a use for him anymore, Chalabi isn't going to make it easy for this crooked administration to turn their backs on this crooked, embezeller who is power hungry.

7. Why would we believe this liar now????? He has the credibility of shrub.
The cabal and Chalabi think the citizens of the US are fools...they all got what they wanted at our expense.

Chalabi got 27 million..(that we know of)...a palace in Iraq..rid of Saddam... and the rest of the payoff is still to come.

Shrub got rid of SD...tons of money..bankrupted the US..and a chance to play war with real people lives.

What more could a sociopath want or need?

8. That is my point. He has lied repeatedley and the administration
bought into it hook, line and sinker. I think this guy was out for power all along. What I am saying is the bu$h admin. embraced Chalabi when they had a use for him. They paid him big money to lie through his teeth (probably well aware that he was a liar) but now we don't have a use for him and he isn't go to walk away from his chance at power in Iraq. In short, I think Chalabi took advantage of the ineptness of this administration. Let's face it, he is a crooked liar just like this administration and I think he is playing their game.

6. It still makes the neocons look like fools in an election year.
This pus-bucket has taken millions of amercian dollars, given out bogus WMD info (not that they wouldn't have found another avenue for that), and now makes the Admin look stupid for trusting him to fall into line. My first thought was that Chalabi has the goods on them and they are trying to make that disappear. Hopefully, the public will get a whiff of that possibility as well.

10. Simpler
Chalabi is hiding where much of the money from the oil for food deal went.

He's in the way.
