Robert Novak: Republican base weakens
Novak's column today talked about the dissension growing among republicans...If somebody as highly placed in the Conservative community as him is willing to admit this, then it looks like things are looking up.

5. Yes, it is my local paper today and it seemed like an *OK* article
Edited on Thu May-20-04 12:55 PM by lovedems
until the last paragraph and then he blows it. He doesn't seem to worried because regardless of how the base feels about *, he says look at the alternative. He is convinced that it doesn't matter what Bu$h does, they won't vote for Kerry they will vote for the chimp November 2. Novak is a douche bag.

4. Novak is a boob, but traditional conservatives have never liked Bush
Now they like him even less because of the Iraq mess and mismanagement of the economy.

7. Here is a Real Conservative's View
Charley writes a pretty good column, unlike Bob,neo-con, Novak.

"I will swallow a lot of petty policy differences with Kerry to get a man in the White House with brains enough not to blow up the world and us with it. Go to Kerry's Web site and read some of the magazine profiles on him. You'll find that there is a great deal more to Kerry than the GOP attack dogs would have you believe.

Besides, it would be fun to have a president who plays hockey, windsurfs, ride motorcycles, plays the guitar, writes poetry and speaks French. It would be good to have a man in the White House who has killed people face to face. Killing people has a sobering effect on a man and dispels all illusions about war."

8. The Busheviks miscalculated about how many Americans would
happily behave like nazis.

They haven't even started Gulagging Enemies of the State yet and people are already balking at "a little torture".

I'm sure, because of that, the Imperial Family's contempt for Filthy Little Nobodies has risen even higher (if that's even possible)

14. I think Novak is right...the Repubs won't leave Bush,
no matter how bad things are. They look at Kerry and because he is a thinking man, it strikes fear in their hearts. We won't win with Republicans...we will win with the Independent vote and every damn Democrat who can walk or be carried to the polls.

15. I'm not at all sure about that.
I know plenty of Republicans who will not be voting for * simply because he is not a conservative as they are. They look at Kerry and can't stand that he's a Dem but are considering voting for him. Either way Bush loses votes at the minimum.

Bush is not a conservative in any stretch of the imagination. He is an anomoly to the party. Sure he'll get some fundies and some no-reads but he's losing the engaged conservative.
