The First Lady's new project.....
Laura Bush, according to what I have heard, during her appearance on the Letterman Show, said he new project is a three year effort to teach America about the National Anthem and how to sing it?

THIS is what she is concerned about? The world is going to hell in a hand basket and singing the National Anthem is what keeps her up late at night???

But the big question is this.......Three years? She and Dubya will be Mr and Mrs Toast in November. Talk about denying reality!:headbang:

1. Out of touch with reality
as she has been from the start. Maybe she should teach hubby how to sing it first. I'm sure all those big words scare him.

2. Seems reasonable to me

Will take at least that long to teach Dubya to pronounce all the words

6. Every time I read about something stupid or clueless that she has said...
I think of the following Haiku that I read right here on DU:

Zoloftian smile
Waving to the deluded
Her demons in check

God, I love that Haiku - says it all!!!

7. I could get behind such a project if it ends the American Idolization
of the anthem. All that melisma makes me nauseated.

11. Good Lord... what a dim bulb
Who's brilliant idea was this? For goodness sakes! Well I guess it makes sense. She used to promote "America's Second Harvest" until all the reports about how many more people are impoverished and young kids going hungry since * took over. How can she address any real issues when her hubby is the one F'ing everything up?

THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER

by: Francis Scott Key (1779-1843)

SAY, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming!
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream;
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be out motto:-- "In God is our trust!"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
