European Cultural Bias...UNESCO World Heritage Sites...
Check this out...a map of UNESCON (a UN organization) World Hertiage Sties:

http://www.thesalmons.org/lynn/whmap.html

In fact there are so many in Europe that they need their own map:

http://www.geog.fu-berlin.de/eurocis/whl/index.html

...while the US is very sparse in comparison (with most being national parks and precolumbian archeological sites...the only post columbian sites are Monticello, Indpendence Hall, and the Statue of Liberty)

Frankly I was a bit shocked by this. I would expect the USA to have alot more sites on this list. I can think of a collection of skyscrapers in the Chicago Loop as a good candidate as thats where this building type originiated. The Vieux Carre(sp?) in New Orleans could be another candidate.

1. Since Europe is
thousands of years old in civilizations, and the US is a mere 200 years old, it stands to reason they'd have a LOT more sites than you do.

Also everytime the UN talks about a site being listed that way in the US, people like the Freepers get hysterical about a UN invasion.

Kid you not.

Even convinced they've seen UN troops taking over buildings, grabbing parks etc

2. Yes, but other parts of the world too...
....look at the world map I linked to.

And there are some suprising sites on there...a steel mill complex and a coal mine in Germany are on it. Im sure there are industrial sites in the USA that could qualify (like Lowell, Mass).

3. Again
you need people willing to agree to this kind of listing.

It's not that the UN is withholding it you know.

5. Then tell it to the UN
but DON'T tell the freepers.

They got hysterical once about a yard full of white buses.

Flew over it, sneaked up on it, took pictures and posted them.

Convinced it was a UN invasion.

Even reported seeing some Chinese in uniform in NY.

Eventually found out it was a place that painted buses, and Taiwan was on an exchange military visit.

There are frequent uproars about the UN 'stealing' parks and so on you know. The UN 'owns' American land, and sovereignty is being given up.

Hey....I can't explain it, that's how it is.

Also once things are listed, I don't think you can tear them down.

That might kybosh some of them.
