Texas Teachers suspending for showing class Berg beheading video.

FORT WORTH — Two Texas high school teachers were suspended Wednesday for showing students the video of the decapitation of American businessman Nick Berg by terrorists in Iraq.

Reports of similar viewings surfaced in North Carolina, California, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Ohio and Washington.
At Villa Park High School in Southern California, English teacher Stephen Arcudi told the Associated Press that he felt showing the video to his students was justified because it is important "to show atrocities on both sides."

"No way do I want my children to see this," said Betsy Pollack, 42, who has two children at Northwest High. "They should have punished these two more than just a few days' pay."

Link?

I dunno...if the kids were shown the video with no warning or no chance to leave the room, then the teachers really fucked up and should be fired. Even if the teachers did give warning though, it is still a pretty messed up thing to do to high schoolers. I watched it once and was screwed up mentaly for the rest of the day.

2. This has been happening in many classrooms across the country.

I find it suspicious. Why this particular video and not others? I don't think any of the graphic videos that have surfaced on the internet should be shown in a classroom even with parental consent. If the parents want their children to see this, it should be in private.

But why this particularly gruesome video and not others?

3. Soften them up?

They really should have shown the Texan Chainsaw Massacre as a preview to this vile movie, don't you think?

5. Holy moly, that was one of the very cases I was referring to when I asked
Edited on Fri May-21-04 11:28 PM by Valerie5555
that question about teachers and school librarians yesterday.

On edit I had seen something in the biziarre news file of the "Way Weird" e mail newsletter about another case in Texas where some other teacher showed the video to ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS.

7. Think the hype about The Passion Of The Christ happened BEFORE
"THE PASSION OF THE NICK BERG" if you knew what I mean.

8. i wonder how many of these teachers
Edited on Sat May-22-04 12:11 AM by seabeyond
told their children they are teaching that the ones that did this are not the iraqi's and they are not the ones battling with the soldiers to get them off the soil and quit occupying their nation. i wonder if they explained to the kids these are terrorists that came into the country of iraq, after we started a war there and opened their borders. that there were not terrorists in iraq prior to the war. and though we tortured and humiliated and raped and beat to death in a much greater torturest way our own iraqi prisoners, some innocent of any crime, it was not the iraqi people that did this to berg

do you think. do you think these teachers gave their children the correct information before during or after showing this video

fire their ass

and at 42 hard and sick for me to watch. i wouldnt show it to any kid. and question whether an adult would want to watch
