BBV: Diebold's Voting Machine Expansion Rattles Investors, States
``This year, we're going to make hardly any money in the voting business,'' O'Dell, who goes by Wally, says. ``It's not like we are trying to make a big profit here.''

Less than 5 percent of Diebold's sales last year came from voting machines, O'Dell says.

Diebold's ATM sales rose 7.4 percent last year to $1.5 billion, second only to NCR Corp. Security-systems revenue rose 18 percent in 2003 to $508.5 million, the company reported in January.

O'Dell says he considers it his public duty to press ahead with voting machines that will probably yield Diebold no more than $200 million a year. Diebold had $2.11 billion in sales last year, mainly from ATMs.

The most recent challenge to Diebold's voting machines came in California last month. The state banned Diebold's newest machines, the AccuVote-TSX Voting System, because they malfunctioned in the March primary.

I find it very telling for a CEO of a multinational manufacturing company to say they are not concerned about being profitable in one of their divisions. If you are not concerned about making a profit, why ARE you in the election business? I think we all know that answer.

4. best way to convince doubters that electronic voting sucks . . .
simply ask them "Do you own a computer?" . . . when they answer "Yes," ask them "Does it work perfectly all the time?" . . . that usually gets them thinking . . .

5. I wish this guy and his idea would just go away.
How can you support these machines when half of the population question its validity?

9. Because they don't do anything to NOT support them
Half the population may question their validity, but until they get in the faces of their auditors, county council/commissioners, serectaries of state, state election directors, state legislators, and federal legislators, nothing is going to change.

Half the population must do more than go, "Oh, yeah, that's not good," then just keep on with whatever they are doing, shopping, watching a movie,....

Most of us have way more to do than we can get done in a day. But if we don't take the time to correct this flagrant miscarriage of democracy, there won't be any democracy for our children.

Your elected officials are NOT going to fix this for you unless you make them.

10. also
Over half the population doesn't care enough to vote at all, let alone get all riled up about what kind of voting machines are in use. According to public election records, Bev Harris herself hasn't voted for anything in four years.
