Iraq Prison Torture Was for Fun, Not Results-Paper
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers who abused prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq were not always preparing them for interrogation but were punishing them or simply having fun, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The newspaper reported on documents showing that military police staged some of the abuse seen in now-notorious photographs to discipline the prisoners for riots, an alleged rape of a teenage boy and other acts.

Some of the photographs have been widely published, among them shots of a pyramid of naked prisoners, a hooded man standing on a box hooked up to wires, and three nude prisoners handcuffed together on the prison floor. The Post on Friday disclosed a collection of new photographs and video images and sworn depositions regarding the abuse of detainees by U.S. soldiers.

1. Big surprise
These sadists enjoyed hurting and humiliating these people they had power over. Isn't that why bullies usually abuse people, to feel better about their own pathetic selves?

3. And you fell for it
that is what they want you to think

These fun moments were designed to truly humiliate those of
Muslim origin... the seven bad apples did NOT come up with this.

The orders came from above, very high indeed.

Don't fall for it, please

4. 'for fun' is a worthy excuse for torture?
i don't follow you.

if they did it on purpose, to extract information, well, then, at least they have an argument that some people would support. not me, certainly, but some people.

if they did it for fun, then they have no argument whatsoever. the nazis tortured for fun, and that's what hollywood uses to depict them as the ultimate evil -- cruel for cruelty's sake.

if this is what "they" want us to think, then this is not a good move by "them".

5. Good point. Lots have fallen for it.
So much better for Bush if people believe that a few bored sergeants cooked up the whole thing.

2. "For fun" is now the watch-word in instances of school bullying
Edited on Sat May-22-04 12:54 AM by Rebel_with_a_cause
These soldiers' "fun" will be carried over into US schools, as if we didn't already have enough bullying going on here already.

This is Bush's legacy to US schools, not academic results.
