Sharpton's Great Line was one for the Ages: "Slapping the Donkey" !
If for nothing else, the dynamic Al Sharpton will be remembered for igniting the passions of this Phila. labor crowd tonite with a great conclusion to one of his talks. It went more or less like this:

"Now you know the symbol of our party is the donkey. And my Momma always told me the donkey is a stubborn animal. You just can't get him to do thing easily. You can't coax him and you can't cajole him. Instead what you have to do to get that donkey to move is to slap him.

"Well I intend to slap this donkey all the way from New Hampshire to Iowa. I'm gonna slap this donkey all across the United States. I will keep slappin' this donkey until this donkey gets up the courage to kick George Bush right out of office!"

I just can't get excited about Al, as a candidate. Bombastic, is the word that comes to mind. I just can't see him across the table from Putin or that Korean guy Kim. JMHO

than the imbecile-in-chief. And Al's had way more experience negotiating with foreign govts .... * is the one who's bombastic

26. The bar has been lowered so far by Bush that Sharpton could
raise it back a lot higher than 4 more years of this administration. He won't win but to reduce his ideas to bombastic is not listening.

With such a stunning and passion filled speech he gave I'm proud to be in the same party as that man! He's got a great way with words and I hope he stays politically charged into 2004 annd beyond.

The funny thing is I COULD see him on the other side of the table of other country statesmen. Al would be straighforward and all American, defintely refreshing compared to that moron in office.

I'm not going to vote for him. But my son who is a 31 black NJ male who is very appreciate of Sharpton for what he did to help stop (lessen) racial profiling of black drivers in NJ, will vote for him in the primary. There's no way I can talk him out of it. And I wouldn't want to.

I used to think he was just sombody who liked to get his face in front of a camera, but he's really very clever and I admire his ideals. And I sure wouldn't want to debate against him!

But I agree with your basic point. He was great. He really has been an energizing force in this campaign.

think that only late middle-aged white men can affectively represent us. It's sad that it's 2003 and people still have that attitude. I can understand racism from repugs, but it's worse when it's from our own party.

Sharpton is a sideshow act. I don't even understand why he's bothering to run. Surely he's not delusional enough to harbor the illusions that he'd make a viable candidate. That dude's dragging more baggage than a bellhop at the Plaza.

18. You sure you've actually watched a debate???
It doesn't matter what kind of crowd he's in front of, they always respond enthusiastically. People love Al and having him run is going to go along way in showing people that black leaders are about alot more than just pandering for black votes. We need people like Al Sharpton in the Democratic Party and it's about high time we remember that all the time, not just every 4 years when we ask them to come out and vote.

And he carries that well.

Yes, I know there were some blips in his past, not unlike nearly every candidate.

But there's no doubt in my mind that were it not simply for his race, he would be a real contender.

Al's a hell of a guy.

He was talking about Bush, he said something like,

"George Bush said he would get Osama and now he hasn't found Osama;
George Bush said he would find Weapons of Mass Destruction, and now he hasn't found weapons of mass destruction; George Bush said he would find Saddam and now he hasn't found Saddam. The only thing George Bush seems to be able to find anymore is Crawford, Texas for another VACATION !" "George Bush can't do the job."

It was great.

We all need to repeat it when we get a chance. Out Loud.
Al won't care if we use it.
