Where is the DLC? Are they doing anything?
Edited on Sat May-22-04 11:19 AM by Alerter_
The "Centrist" and Moderate" DLC are supposed to be the "winners" that can "win elections" by appealing to the "middle".

What have they been doing? With Bush and the Neo-Cons and Republicans in full panic mode, burning the tapes before the War Crimes Trials begin, and getting scolded by real Vets, Generals, and Greenspan, and all their former officials, you would figure the Mighty DLC would be kicking ass and taking names?

With the Neo-Cons exposed to all America, I would think the DLC would be poised to take the House and Senate. Kerry seems to be doing a good job in Louisiana - where is the Congress? Where is the DNC? Where is the DLC?

1. I think they're fading
I think Lieberman's disastrous campaign hurt them, and they were also too hawkish about Iraq.

2. adding a moderate tone to some party planks is a good idea
but the DLC is so corrupt now they are pretty much useless and they have been rejected by the party for the most part, except when a candidate needs some cash. MoveOn.org and other progressive groups and organizations are beginning to take back the party. We have MoveON.org...tons of best selling left leaning books, the most liberal house leader we have ever had, the progressive caucus, and now the formation of progressive caucuses at the state level. DLC is old news I think.

4. in the South
Kerry does have to focus more on his moderate policies. Kerry has some pretty liberal ideas and soem moderate ideas. If he focuses on small businesses, increased minimum wage, balanced budget, and plans to stop outsourcing...he may take a few southern states such as Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas.

16. I would imagine Breaux is DLC...
But more importantly he's the most popular and influential politician in Louisiana.

5. The DLC doesn't care about winning elections. It's not their purpose....
....never has been. The DLC was created to accomplish one goal and one goal only.... the destruction of the Democratic party from within by slowly converting it to a clone of the Republican party, creating a one party fascist state right under the noses of the American people, the sad majority of which don't even care enough to open their eyes to the obvious.

Al From and Will Marshall, the treasonous neocon shitbags, wrote an article in early 1995 which declared the 1994 election and the Democratic loss of both houses of Congress to be a "liberation" which spelled the end of the Democratic party in the traditions of FDR, Truman, JFK, etc. That should have been enough of a clue to reveal their true intentions even then.

As I've said before, this cancer will KILL this party and this country if it is not cut out NOW.

6. The DLC is running Kerry's campaign.
Kerry's policy proposals are now fully in line with DLC policies. Which is exactly why he says so little that anybody (including the mythical "swing" voter) wants to hear.

8. I have seen some pretty nasty anti-Bush ads
I'm not sure who's paying for them. They seemed quite powerful. I think they are letting * stew in his own juices... there are plenty of them... for a while and saving their $s.

15. They were initially, but then Ted Kennedy stepped in...
Now Kerry's policy is a mix of DLC and Kennedy's guys.

10. Your impression of their power is overstated
Edited on Sat May-22-04 12:18 PM by wyldwolf
The DLC is a think tank, so to speak, and their power is limited to the amount of influence member elected officeholders have.

House and Senate non-DLC dems outnumbers DLC dems. Always have.

So, what have the non-DLC dems been doing? They appear to have more power, do they not?

I can tell you this: The DLC currently has the candidate that will, if current polling trends hold, defeat Bush.

As for the DLC being "poised to take the House and Senate," how can one know unless we examine each dem running for each house and senate seat in 2004 as to their relationship with the DLC?

Even though national polls on congress mean little, I can say nationally the DNC IS poised to retake congress. Some of which is/will be DLC.

12. Strange how 'some' gave the DLC credit for the 'last three wins'..
...but now they're only a 'think tank' without any power?

14. you're misrepresenting what I've said
Edited on Sat May-22-04 12:43 PM by wyldwolf
I've said the DLC candidate has won the last three presidential elections and that their power is limited to the amount of influence member elected officeholders have.

A BIG difference than what you have credited me with saying.
