How did Massachusetts get a Republican governor?
NY got Pataki after there was a violent crime and many people wanted the death penalty re-instated, which it was.

MN got Pawlenty because of a three-way race.

How did Massachusetts get a Republican governor?

1. I'm told it was because of education
One of my good friends here at school is from Massachussets. She (a liberal, btw), was telling me that Romney had 'the right ideas' on education, and that was enough to convince the Massachussets voters to pick him.

2. if he genuinely had better ideas about education than his opponent, then
If he genuinely had better ideas about education than his opponent, then that is fair.

3. Mass. has had Republican governors for the last 12 years
Because both the state house and senate is strongly Democratic, I think people idiotically think they need a R governor to "balance things out".

Romney is the worst governor the state has had in modern history, IMO.

Previous R governors (like Bill Weld) weren't that bad. Romney is the WORST.

5. Right on all counts!
Voters in Mass elect democrats to the house and senate and then feel guilty so they elect a Repub Gov. to reign in the folks they've elected to the legislature. It leads to nothing more than grid lock. We have done this time and time again...we never learn! And yeah, this guy Romney gets the prize...he has done nothing...lately he's gone after 8 out-of-sate gays who got married in Mass. I guess the world would have ended if he let 'em get away with it.

4. pretty boy politics. . .
he's so-o-o attractive (sarcasm off). . .he was even technically a Nevada resident at the time. Was really strange. A businessman with no political experience gets elected. . .wrote it off entirely though the same thing occurred in my state.

Oh and by the way. . .we had selected a failed businessman to the most powerful position in the world . . .but nevermind.

7. Actually, he was a resident of Utah...
He had the tax forms to prove it. Oh, wait, we did not get to see them. Anyway, Weld was an incedible governor. Romney sucks. Shannon O'Brien was his rival for gov and sadly she was not very good. Oh well, we only have to look at his pretty face for 2 more years.
