Bush's Ties to Oil Industry Hurt Consumers, Zogby Poll Says
May 21 (Bloomberg) -- A majority of likely U.S. voters believe President George W. Bush's ties to the oil industry are bad for consumers, according to a poll by Zogby International.

The survey found that 57 percent of likely voters believe the Bush administration's ties to oil and gas companies hurt consumers, while only 12 percent believe they help.

The price of gasoline has become an election-year political issue as the average cost of a gallon has risen above $2. Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, a four-term U.S. senator from Massachusetts, has urged Bush to stop filling the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower gas prices.
