The irony is that Gerald Ford was a gifted athlete. He played football through college. He was spun as a "clutz" for the same reason Gore was spun as a "liar". The right-wing didn't like him. They sent their hounds after him to clear the way for appropriate Republicans.

Why does someone who is supposedly so healthy need 24 hour on staff medical care? I knew Cheney had a 24 hour doctor, but this is the first time I've heard about W having one?

Has any other US President had 24 hour medical care? Could you imagine if Clinton had made the taxpayers pay for a 24 hour MD?

I think we all can agree that shrub has really lowered the bar when it comes to (p)Residential coordination, however, I don't think I can remember anybody in the White House that had so many bruises and bumps in one term...

It has GOT to suck to have everything you do photographed for posterity--lord knows I've looked like an ass any number of times. It must really be humiliating to have every embarrassing moment caught on film for public consumption. I've tripped, stumbled, walked into things--you know the drill--all the stuff we humans do to look like idjits, but I don't ever think I've had my face that bruised up. Nor have I had it that bruised up so many times in three years.

Everybody joked about Gerald Ford and his accidents, but i don't remember HIM running around looking like shrub does.

Am I suffering from selective memory, or is shrub just a mess?

I remember he sliced a golf ball into a spectator once, and him tripping down the stairs while debarking from Air Force One.

But I don't ever remember Ford doing a face plant during his brief term, let alone doing it twice like Shrub.

Gerald Ford may have been our most athletic president. He was a college football player and one of the best presidential golfers. He got a reputation due to a couple of incidents. But like Gore getting pegged unfairly as a liar, Ford was unfairly characterized as clumsy. Bush seems bizarrely accident prone.
