American Olympic Athletes Told Not To Carry Or Wave Flags...
as they have done in past Olympic games. --- That's the way I understood it being explained on a segment of Friday's "News Hour" program. (Can anyone confirm or clarify my understanding?)

Are we such pariahs now that even an Olympic athlete carrying a little flag is considered to be inflammatory or arrogant? Is the symbol of our country to be as despised as the SWASTIKA?

4. I'm Thinking They Want The Athletes To Be A Bit More "Humble"
in their demeanor rather than boisterous and chanting and waving and shouting (that U-S-A! U-S-A! mentality).

Quite honestly, I fear for their safety. I can't imagine that ANY of our athletes would be the "darlings" of the Olympics. Pity too... they've worked so hard, only to have their accomplishments spoiled by the fact that our country is consider the pariah of the entire planet.

5. I think thats going a bit overboard
I mean if there is any place TO BE proud of your country and display a sort of "rah-rah" mentality its at sport competitions like the Olympics and the World Cup. Let them wave flags, but don't let them take their shirts off and do body building poses or showboat - thats tacky and disrespectful.

6. No victory laps with flags
It has become traditional in the sport of track to take a victory lap carrying a flag of your country. This was one of the displays that Americans have been warned against.

I'm old enough to remember when other countries looked up to the United States. There was always the "Ugly American" type of thing, but that was from rude individuals, not foreign policy that hates the rest of the world.

Damn you, Bush!
