Police Widen Search for Michigan Man Accused in Fatal Shooting of Trooper

<snip>Woodring barricaded himself inside the house Sunday when Hesperia police and the Newaygo County Sheriff's Department tried to serve him with a felony arrest warrant. He was accused of soliciting sex from a female minor at a gas station July 1 in Hesperia during a weeklong festival there, The Grand Rapids Press reported.

Woodring's sister, Debbie DeVisser, described her brother as a deeply religious man who would help anyone and not ask for anything in return. She said her brother would not shoot without provocation.

DeVisser said her brother serves as a chaplain for a nonviolent militia group that supports the right to bear arms. She did not know the name of the group. DeVisser believes Woodring had one or two rifles and a revolver in the home, all legally. snip

Resident Suzie Burdick said she and Woodring have been close friends for five years, attended the same church and often discussed the Bible. She said that while Woodring holds strong anti-government views, he is a nonviolent person.

1. Been wondering what happened to the Michigan Militia ...
Local news here interviewed the sister -- she said they should have apologized for bothering him!!

4. Welcome fellow Michgander!
I don't know about you but as I read "non-violent militia group" I jsut smiled and thought, ah, much like a Rush fan (who often are too embarrassed to admit it) they are hesitant to claim connection to the Michigan Militia. LOL! I love it. Big brave men.....

10. Thanks for the welcome!
Latest on the local news -- the Michigan Militia doesn't want to be associated with him! Now they say he was involved with a "violent branch" of the Christian Identity Movement!

11. Welcome to DU
You are about to witness the awe and mystery that go from the BFEE to the uncharted reaches of the VRWC (or something like that).

13. Thanks for the welcome!
I've been following that trail for a long time.

Can it still be a conspiracy when so many are involved?

7. Since 9/11...
I think it has become un-cool to be in the Michigan Militia. Plus all that anti government hate has been re-focused on foreign peoples and governments.
