Russert and the Imuses talking about "Vegans"

I am shocked - all this time, I and everyone I know has called the anti ovo-lacto vegeratians Vegans Pronounced "Vee Gans" (or Vay Gans).

Well the Imuses have the chef from the Grateful Dead and the Stones (you know - "those people" as Imus calls them) and the Imuses are almost "Vegans" pronounced (Vej-Ans).

How embarassing that it takes someone like Imus to "hip" me to the true pronunciation.

I've always heard and said Vee Gans too.

Perhaps this is just another CarRIBbean/Care-a-BEE-an thing?

All I know is it's an ancient Indian word similar to Vegetarian.

Vegetarian = Bad Hunter.

Vegan = Can't Fish Either.

7. I have a part time GF who is a Vegetarian.
Told her that joke one day and she started slapping the crap out of my shoulder...while laughing so hard I have no clue how she was actually connecting.

4. It's Vee-gans in this part of the world too.
I saw the interview and was surprised to hear it pronounced Vej-ans.

Learn something new every day.....I guess. :-)

Sounds like they do wonderful work on the ranch.

out here in the land of vegans, I've only ever heard it pronounced "vee-guns" or "vay-guns".

Now the real question - do Vegans swallow? :P
