RW Talk Radio Host Today Said This About Bush

Again, I am talking about Jay Severin, in Boston --

"He doesn't deserve to be relected. He is too dumb to be president, there I said it, I've suggested it, inferred it before, but he is too dumb. His speech last night (we invaded Iraq so Iraqis could be free) is itself an impeachable offense. But as bad as Bush is, and he is really bad, given the choice between him and Kerry (Kerry's policies, not the person), Jay inexplicably said Kerry would be worse than Bush. However, Jay said he could not/would not vote for Bush."

A caller, who called himself an independent, said he loved Romney (R-MA-GOV), but couldn't vote for Bush. Jay said to him, who do you think would be better on national defense and taxes - Kerry or Bush? The caller said, well, Kerry -- given what Bush has done in Iraq and given that he spends money like a liberal. Jay said he could not/would not vote for Bush - but would not vote for Kerry - then the caller said -- well I go beyond that - I will vote for Kerry because I want to make sure that Bush is not re-elected.

Jay stopped and said, if you as an independent, speak for that 15% out there that will decide an election, then this election is over. If you are saying that you will not only not vote for Bush, but that you will vote for Kerry to be sure Bush is not reelected, then this election is over.

It was amazing. Jay, usually cutting people off and being all snarly know it all that he is, literally stopped at one point in his monologue and verbally sighed. He was completely cooked. Not ranting like bow-tie boy, but cooked nonetheless.

I just listen to him on the drive home because I like to know what the RWers are saying, so I am better prepared. But I admit I was struck by the pure unadulterated honesty of the moment, cuz there was no spin by the caller -- he was very calm and honest -- and no spin by Jay (which is rare). He'll be denying it next week I am sure.

It was odd, because I was thinking all day today about the RWers argument that Kerry will cause havoc with taxes and this notion that Bush is stronger on national security. I was thinking how completely bogus this was given the nightmare that Bush aka mr. national security has created for us and how the deficit is off the charts. So how can anyone say Bush is better. So I appreciated the beautiful candor of the moment.

It was also the first time I had heard an independent say they would vote for Kerry to make sure Bush was not re-elected (that it wasn't enough to just not vote for Bush). Wow.

the confidence is gone. Nothing is going to make the right overnight, not even a Sarin shell. The mess Bush created is his doom and it isn't going away anytime soon.

Here's another example of a "tipping point". Commercials on commercially edgy 99X in Atlanta were using weapons of mass destruction as the butt of a joke to make a product look better. I wished I could remember the commercial better but I was driving. Hey, it has to be fair game, Bush used the fruitless WMD hunt as a joke at the White House correspondents dinner

I remember both of them from my New England days - Severin was nuts, but Carr was as close to a bigot as one can be and still be allowed on the air.

I cannot listen to him because he rants and yells and is ignorant. Jay is more soft-spoken, although just as looney.

there has never been more potential to grab votes. The right wing is about to splinter.

Then add in the neo-cons to spend all the money. I saw clips of last night with Bush and I may not be able to sleep to night. I swear the man is a little off and I only saw 2 or 3 min.

candidate... They aren't about to give up control of a government they are craven to monopolize.
By consensus within their own party, Bush is a liability and a dead duck.

IMO-Their most moderate candidate is McCain..

I could see a McCain/Powell ticket doing well with moderate voters, but as many folks said in anothe thread today.. those two are GOP pariahs now.

I think if there was any candidate who the GOP would pull out of the hat this late in the game, it would have to be George H. W. Bush.

Why? Because he has experience, people percieve him as strong on foreign policy, he led what is generally considered as a successful war, he does not come across as harsh as his son with regards to rhetoric, and he is still a member of the right-wing power structure (he is part of Carlyle).

I think they would drag him back hoping people would look at his first term with rose-tinted glasses.

given the short memories of many in this country. I just don't know how many would remember the "read my lips" statement on taxes. Repugs I know turned against him for that.

We've seen how the media can influence the public's perception of a candidate. If the media was to ignore that and only reflect on the popular aspects of Poppy's term, who knows what would happen in November? But yes- the taxes thing hurt his popularity with the conservative crowd. His son certainly doesn't have the same problem - haven't we had a tax cut for every budget under his 'management'?

and are preparing to toss Bush overboard and begin again with a clean slate. Their thinking is, they have accomplished their goal by half. All they need is to discard the current leadership, replace them with fresh faces and they are back in the game.

By dumping Bush, they distance themselves from the scandal, corruption and a host of impeachable offenses. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we start hearing groundswells of Impeachment emanating from House Mgrs soon. In effect, throwing Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld to the wolves for the sake of the party.
