Tom Brokaw - Good bye and Good riddance!
Edited on Tue May-25-04 08:58 PM by Must_B_Free
You made yourself irrelevant Tom. You are so dismissive of everything, you have dismissed yourself. You are like the chosen son that never amounted to anything. I'd like to say that I'm sorry to see you go, but I'm not.

----

Ugggh - he just said the people he interviewed that meant the most to him were the "ordinary people". :puke:

Brian Williams. He's not as wimpy as that punk on CNN morning shows. I've hated that Doogie Howser since I first laid eyes on him. Same with F*cker Carlson. can't stand many of the young guys in the crop.

Gives Tom more time to pursue his hobby -- fellating the octogenarians at the VFW Hall.
The "greatest generation"? Too goddamned bad for us Vietnam-era types that we didn't get a "good war" like our daddies did. I appreciate what the WWII folks went through -- but once I put on an Army uniform and did my service as well, I decided I was done kissing their asses about it.

20. Ah, I was careful to say "Vietnam-era"
I spent my time as a REMF Signal Corpsman at Fort Monroe, VA (1974-76) and am not worthy to shine the jungle boots of those who found themselves in Vietnam.
I consider myself lucky that I was just a bit too young to see service in-country (and I went in at 17 -- born October 4, 1956) -- but just about everyone I served with who had three stripes or more had been there.
What I resent about Brokaw is his equation that somehow catching the greatest war equals being part of the "greatest generation." Nobody gets to choose which conflicts he serves in -- and I still think the Vietnam kids caught the biggest screwjob of them all.
Guys like you and Saigon68 and DemoTex are the heroes. I served stateside and just made sure everyone got the jeeps and the beer and the toilet paper sent to the right place on time. I earned the National Defense Service Medal. That was it and that was plenty.
To the rest of my military brethren, such as yourself, I'll only say "welcome home."
John

Constant vigilance and all that. As far as I know, North Dakota is still part of the United States -- so you did your part, airman.

Fort Monroe is the only Army post (I would think in ANY army) anywhere in the world with an actual moat -- the construction of which was supervised by none other than Robert E. Lee in his first assignment after graduating from West Point.
It is also the only post with a civilian hotel on base AND its own YMCA. It was pretty cushy duty, even though enlisted men were outnumbered by officers about two to one.

quite the source of drugs was Saskatoon (sp? too long) according to the adventurous.

And, B-52s? We had more of them than people. Most with "jungle" camo paint jobs as they rotated through from VN back to the states with the winding down of the war.

Come to think of it though, maybe Manitoba was quiet *because* they knew I was on the job toting an M-16 on the midnight shift on the flightline.

13. Good one! Gunga Dan has been carrying water for the BFEE for decades.
Besides being Rumsferatu's co-signator on an extensive ranch somewhere, Dan "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" Rather has done much in the service of the Bush Organized Crime Family. Consider his actions on 22 November 1963:

DAN RATHER AND JFK

In November, 1963, Dan Rather was an unknown newscaster at a small Texas TV station. When the Zapruder film of the assassination of John Kennedy became public knowledge, Dan Rather reported from Texas that he had seen the film, and that it showed John Kennedy's head "rocket forward" from the head shot. Single frames were shown from the film in magazines and on TV, but the actual moving image was not shown to the American public until Jim Garrison's trial of CIA agent Clay Shaw made the Zapurder film public, and proved once and for all that the head shot pushed John Kennedy's head backwards.

Shortly after Rather's "rocket forward" broadcast, he was given his first network slot and the start of his rise to media stardom. His original "rock forward" broadcast appears briefly under the opening titles of Oliver Stone's "JFK".

Dan Rather got his first big break on November 22, 1963, when JFK was shot in Dallas. Rather, a Texan, was right in place to receive his boondoggle: all he had to do was lie. Apparently, that was no problem for Rather, who soon after declared on national television that he had seen the Zapruder Film, and it indeed had shown Kennedy's head snap forward. This is the same story presented in Life Magazine, which showed frames of the Zapruder film in the order that appeared to have JFK's head moving in that direction. Time-Life then bought the film and tried to keep it out of the view of the public. When it was finally released over a decade later, it was revealed that Kennedy's head snapped BACKWARDS. Whoops. This would be strange, since, considering that Lee Harvey Oswald was behind Kennedy at the time of the assassination, it would defy the laws of physics for Kennedy's head to go the direction it did if Oswald was the "lone-nut" gunman. If there is a "smoking gun" on media collaboration in covering up the JFK story, this is it, and Rather is point and center in it. Either he saw the film and lied about what he viewed, or he didn't see it and lied when he said he did, but in either case, Dan Rather has proven himself utterly untrustworthy in the biggest of stories. Instead of being punished for his dishonesty, he has unsurprisingly been rewarded, along the way dismissing as ridiculous any legitimate investigation of the JFK hit, smearing Oliver Stone's JFK along the way as "inaccurate". Has Mr. Rather heard about people living in glass houses?

Much darn, um, Dan more:

32. Yeah. That's the one.
Helping sell the lone-nut gunman hypothesis to the American public has done more to advance the cause of the BFEE than pointing out minor problems with the thugs hired to head petrogovernments. I thought you'd feel that way, reading your JFK sigline and all.

PS: Yes, I prefer Dan by a loooooong mile over the other networks' talking heads. Besides Dan's a partier.

35. That 'head snapping forward or back' controversy is soooo tired
If you really need an anti-Oswald argument to feel complete that's a pretty weak place to start.

How about the 'Rather was sleeping with Castro' scenario? Makes perfect sense, when you think about it...

37. Laugh all you want. If you believe Oswald acted alone...
... you're repeating what J Edgar Hoover wanted you to.

Someone ordered the FBI's top crossdresser to come to that conclusion. Or else the Hoove just "understood" that's what he was supposed to report.

Something else, for your tin hat: Unlike our major news media that have ignored the evidence of the case that represents THE major turning point in modern American history, I'm always interested in discussing the assassination of President Kennedy. He was the last great Liberal president. I even like to talk about it, respectfully, with people who disagree with me. That's a liberal thing to do, right?

Something to remember: Hoover didn't like liberals like JFK. Or me.

29. Brian Williams is terrible.
I watched him for a while in the early days of his MSNBC show. In the middle of reading a straightforward news report, out of nowhere he would throw in a few strongly subjective words that always leaned to the right. Besides being a wingnut, he's always seemed dimwitted to me.
