by all the resources of the US government as part of The Huston Plan approved by President Richard M. Nixon.

A lot of Americans were harmed as a result of that police state tactic.

Many of the programs were privatized.

Until today discussion about mind control related stuff was supressed.

6. COINTELPRO: FBI tried to drive Martin Luther King, Jr. to suicide.
The FBI's Vendetta
Against Martin Luther King, Jr.

excerpted from the book
The Lawless State
The crimes of the U.S. Inteligence Agencies

by Morton Halperin, Jerry Berman, Robert Borosage, Christine Marwick
Penguin Books, 1976

p63
For the FBI, an organization seeking to register blacks in the South was clearly suspicious. Until 1962, the bureau would monitor King and SCLC under the "racial matters" category, which required agents to collect "all pertinent information" about the "proposed or actual activities of individuals and organizations in the racial field." According to the Senate Select Committee, the FBI information on King was "extensive."

The unfolding story of the civil rights protest movement and the leadership role of Martin Luther King, Jr., is a most ignoble chapter in the history of FBI spying and manipulation. As the civil rights movement grew and expanded, the FBI pinpointed every group and emergent leader for intensive investigation and most for harassment and disruption, the FBl's domestic version of CIA covert action abroad. The NAACP was the subject of a COMINFIL investigation. The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) were listed by the FBI as "Black-Hate" type organizations and selected for covert disruption of their political activities. But the most vicious FBI attack was reserved for King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. All of the arbitrary power and lawless tactics that had accumulated in the bureau over the years were marshaled to destroy King's reputation and the movement he led. The FBI relied on its vague authority to investigate "subversives" to spy on King and SCLC; its vague authority to conduct warrantless wiretapping and microphonic surveillance to tap and bug him; its secrecy to conduct covert operations against him. The campaign began with his rise to leadership and grew more vicious as he reached the height of his power; it continued even after his assassination in 1968.

First thing: Great read, bobthedrummer! Much obliged!

Secondly: The more we learn about the BFEE, the sooner we can get rid of the scourge.

As you, I still believe the good people outnumber the bad.

Still that Nixon, was something else. He kept Poppy's "career" alive. He also gave every right-wing, conservative, nutjob a new way of thinking:

"When the President does it, that means that it's not illegal."

What a schmuck. Nixon's still a crook. Just like the Little Turd from Crawford and his oily pa.

Getting out of this mess

by Jack Lessenberry

I thought that Johnson was the devil,
I thought we couldn’t do no worse,
Now the White House stands,
in Disneyland
This country must be under a curse.

—Phil Ochs, “Ten Cents a Coup,” 1970

Nobody is talking about this, but there have to be thousands of people who once attacked Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan who are now feeling vaguely guilty.

That’s because there was a day when we really thought they were the most awful leaders we could imagine. Democrats made ads proclaiming that the country, or the world, or something, would fall apart if they were elected.

However, they were elected and re-elected, and the republic survived. Trouble is, now we’ve got the real deal: An administration that really does threaten — no, promise — to do serious and likely permanent violence to our own democracy, to our economy, and most of all to the world and our place in it.

They’ve already badly damaged our image abroad in a way guaranteed to give help and comfort to our enemies. But how do we get people to realize that it’s not just us hysterical liberals screaming “the sky is falling” one more time?

That’s precisely the problem. Years ago, there was a protest button that said “If you aren’t outraged, you are not paying attention.” That’s a thousand times truer now. The Democrats, and all of those who are intelligent and decent, have to figure out how to get the nation to pay attention.

9. Baby Babylon 350 mm gun Can you guys tell me about this?
Sorry it's off topic but ya'lls the best and I need to know more

Iraq Gun
Credit: UNSMC

On 22 March 1990 Bull was assassinated and the project quickly unravelled. It is commonly thought that he was killed by the Israelis, concerned not so much by the supergun work but rather dynamics research Bull was doing to improve Iraqi ballistic missiles. Three weeks later British Customs seized the final eight sections of the Babylon Gun. On August 2, 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait, precipitating the Gulf War. This ended Western covert sponsorship of Iraq.

After the war UN teams destroyed the Baby Babylon 350 mm gun, components of the two Project Babylon 1000 mm guns (44 gun sections, four recoil cylinders), and one tonne of supergun propellant (the Iraqis destroyed the remaining 11 tonnes). Only seven slugs for the 350 mm gun were recovered and destroyed. Iraq claimed never to have received any design, assistance, materials or equipment for the planned rocket-assisted projectiles. At the end of September 1995 UNSCOM obtained information on an indigenous 600 mm indigenous Iraqi supergun design - evidence that the project had not died with Bull.

1981 - Gerard Bull was first contracted by the Iraqi government
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1988 March - Iraq contracts with Gerard Bull for a space-launch supergun.
Bull received a contract to build two full sized 'Project Babylon' 1000 mm superguns and one 'Baby Babylon' 350 mm prototype for a total of $25 million. The project was given the cover designation 'PC-2' (Petrochemical Complex-2). British engineer Christopher Cowley was the project manager.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1989 May - Baby Babylon Supergun completed
The Baby Babylon was completed at Jabal Hamrayn, 145 km north of Baghdad. The horizontally-mounted gun was 45-m long with a 350 mm barrel, and had a total mass of 102 tonnes. Following tests using lead projectiles the gun was reassembled on a hillside at a 45 degree angle. It was expected to achieve a range of 750 km. One of the planned missions for the prototype gun was as an anti-satellite weapon. It would launch a special shell in space that would explode near the target satellite, covering it with sticky material and blinding it.

10. Bull was mastermind of war.
Like many in his profession, Bull was used by "allied" governments and then forced to turn to the even-less-democratic types when the grant money ran out. So he sought a despot with the means to support his dreams, research and machines. This cannon, according to the Federation of American Scientists, would be capable of lobbing nuclear shells all over the Middle East. Here's the FAS blast:

Project Babylon Supergun / PC-2

Early in the war with Iran, the Iraqi government engaged world- renowned artillery expert Gerald V. Bull, whose lifetime obsession was a the construction of a "Supergun," a huge howitzer able to fire satellites into space or launch artillery shells thousands of miles into enemy territory. While he did not accomplish that dream, Bull did manage to design some of the most effective artillery pieces in the world.

A Canadian-born astro-physicist, Bull had earlier research contracts with with the United States Army, the Canadian Department of Defense and McGill University. While working on the Canadian Velvet Glove missile project, he realized that scientific instruments could also be fired from a gun and survive if put in a proper casing. In 1962 Bull obtained US military support for the joint U.S./Canadian High Altitude Research Program . Initially working from a facility on the island of Barbados, a small 5-inch gun was used to fire projectiles to an altitude of over 70 km, and a 7-inch guns fired projectiles to nearly 100 km. Subsequently, in Arizona a larger HARP gun was fabricated by welding together a pair of 16-inch battleship guns, forming a barrel some 30 meters long. The gun was used to fire light-weight sub-caliber discarding-sabot projectiles called Martletts. On 19 November 1966 the gun fired a 185-lb Martlet to an altitude of 180 km. The 16 inch HARP gun was intended to launch a small three stage rocket carrying a 10 kg payload into space. However, the Canadian and US governments terminated HARP funding in 1967.

Bull severed his association with the Pentagon in the 1970's and set up companies and agreements to sell improved versions of technology he developed to a number of foreign governments, including Iran, Chile, Taiwan and China. Working through his own Quebec firm, Space Research Corporation, and a Belgium subsidiary, European Poudreries Reunies de Belgique, Bull was able to produce his most formidable battlefield artillery piece, the GC-45 gun, known to fire a shell 25 miles with a throw weight twice that of guns used by Western armies. He was sentenced and jailed for one year in 1980 for illegally selling weapons to South Africa, despite the US arms embargo.

SNIP...

Most worrisome in Iraq's arsenal of guns developed by Gerald Bull from mid-1981 until he was assassinated on 22 March 1990, were its 300 155 millimeter howitzers, all versions of the GC-45 gun that Bull developed in the 1970's. Two hundred of these guns, termed GH-N-45 and manufactured in Austria, were shipped to Iraq via Jordan in 1985 for use in the Iran-Iraq war. The remaining 100 were manufactured in South Africa, where they are marketed under the name G-5. The G-5 can deliver a tactical nuclear warhead, chemical shells or any NATO standard 155mm shell.

11. Mossad Killers on the Loose in the USA
Edited on Thu May-27-04 04:47 PM by seemslikeadream
by RICHARD SALE

Gerald Bull, an Ontario-born U.S. citizen and designer of the Iraqi supergun -- a massive artillery system capable of launching satellites into orbit, and of delivering nuclear chemical or biological payloads from Baghdad to Israel -- was killed in Belgium in March 1990. The killing is still unsolved, but former CIA officials said a Mossad hit team is the most likely suspect.

Bull worked on the supergun design -- codenamed Project Babylon -- for 10 years, and helped the Iraqis develop many smaller artillery systems. He was found with five bullets in his head outside his Brussels apartment.

Israeli hit teams, which consist of units or squadrons of the Kidon, a sub-unit for Mossad's highly secret Metsada department, would stage the operations, former Israeli intelligence sources said. Kidon is a Hebrew word meaning "bayonet," one former Israeli intelligence source said.

b 1928 Ontario, d 1990 Brussels

Gerald Bull had a vision and an obsession, a vision that led to estrangement from his native Canada, prison in America, and ultimately assassination by Israel. His vision was of an entirely new way to get into space: small rockets boosted by giant guns. To achieve it he worked for some of the worst regimes on earth: South Africa, China, and ultimately Iraq. His work affected the course of two modern wars and revived the ancient field of artillery.

My information about him comes from: "Arms and the Man - Dr. Gerald Bull, Iraq, and the Supergun" by William Lowther, Presidio Press, 1991. It's a crisp treatment of a fascinating subject. This picture came from there too: it shows Bull in 1965 when he headed up the HARP project in Barbados.

Bull was born in North Bay Ontario in 1928. He had a loveless childhood; he was raised by an aunt after the death of his mother and abandonment by his father. He excelled at school, however, and graduated at age 23 with a doctorate from the University of Toronto. At that point he was a standard-issue hacker: thin, pale, and with an enormous capacity for work. He wound up at the Canadian Armament and Research Development Establishment (CARDE), a world-class center for weapons research filled with technology transferred from Britain to Canada to keep it away from the Nazis.

After WW II CARDE was looking at the problems of supersonic aerodynamics in preparation for supersonic aircraft and missiles. Supersonic wind tunnels were expensive, but Bull hit on an alternate approach: instead of moving air at supersonic speeds past a model, fire the model at supersonic speeds down a test range. While in the barrel of the gun, the model would be surrounded by a wooden shell, or sabot. Upon leaving the gun, the sabot would fall away and the model would fly freely. High-speed cameras could record its behavior during flight. The scheme worked brilliantly on early missile tests, but was overshadowed by Soviet aircraft advances which caused the project's cancellation. This was Bull's introduction to large artillery.

Before the axe fell, Bull managed to get the assets of HARP transferred to his own corporation. This let him continue to do research into artillery, now as a consultant to the world's armies.

12. In addition to lobbing nukes, it was supposed to "slime" spy satellites!
This is not a load of, um, BS. More from FAS:

Subject: Iraqi ASAT gluegun
From: thomsona@netcom.com (Allen Thomson)
Date: 1995/09/25
Message-Id: <thomsonaDFHAGI.M01@netcom.com>
Newsgroups: sci.space.policy,alt.politics.org.cia,alt.war

And now, a special offering for connoisseurs of the truly bizarre:

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 1995 (UPI)

EXCERPTS...

The high-ranking Iraqi defector Gen. Hussein Kamel al-Majeed said Iraq was working on a space weapon launched from a "supergun" that would "blind" Western spy satellites with a "sticky material."

He also said the "supergun," which consisted of a more than 100-foot artillery barrel that was being constructed in northern Iraq, could have delivered a nuclear device.

"It was meant for long-range attack and also to blind spy satellites. Our scientists were seriously working on that. It was designed to explode a shell in space that would have sprayed a sticky material on the satellite and blinded it."

If there's anything to this, which I think is still very much
TBD, it has the interesting implication that the Iraqis believed
they could deliver a device to LEO with some precision. The radius
of effective action of a gluebomb probably isn't very great.

Imagine the ignominy of having a billion-dollar spysat slimed to
to death by Iraqi artillery. ;-)

strange story isn't it?

According to sources, U.S. and Israeli intelligence were surprised to discover not one but three or four super guns just turned up in Iraq’s arsenal – weapons far more advanced and effective than the cannon Bull developed. It comes in two versions.

The largest has a 1,000 mm diameter barrel, 260 meters (248 yards) long and a maximum range of 2,000 miles. The barrel of the smaller version is 350 mm in diameter and 30 meters (32 yards) long. Its range is up to 250 miles. The Iraqis may have two of each, hidden in Saddam’s underground city. They remained undiscovered for so long because they were dismantled and concealed in segments – the barrel of the biggest super gun is made up of 35 separate pipes. It was only when the Iraqis started assembling the super guns that U.S. and Israeli satellites spied them out.

Since most intelligence experts concede Iraq has been capable of building radiological weapons since 1991, its super guns – which can deliver a nuclear payload over great distances – will be one of the first goals of the U.S.-led campaign. Killing the super gun could be the boldest move in Washington’s global war against terrorism.

1990 On March 15, Iraq hanged a British Iranian-born journalist Farzad Bazoft for espionage. Great Britain recalled its ambassador to Baghdad the following day.
On March 22, Gerald Bull, a Canadian ballistics expert, was murdered in Brussels. His son claimed that the Israeli intelligence service Mossad was responsible for the killing because Bull’s company had provided engineering assistance to Iraq. On March 28, the British arrested five men charged with smuggling U.S. made nuclear bomb triggers destined for Iraq. Two days later, the New York Times published a U.S. intelligence report confirming that Iraq had deployed six SCUD missile launchers to the western regions of the country putting Damascus and Tel Aviv within range. The following day, March 31, the Washington Post reported that in May, 1989, U.S. Customs officers had blocked the shipment to Iraq of 185 high-speed capacitors which could have been used to detonate a nuclear bomb.

THE OCTOPUS, SECRET GOVERNMENT AND THE DEATH OF DANNY CASOLARO
Site Map

by Kenn Thomas and Jim Keith

Excerpts

While this cabal continues, its origins were spawned thirty years ago in the shadow of the Cold War. In recent months, however, several of its members have gratuitously taken credit for the purposeful delay of the release of the hostages until after the 1980 election, scuttling and resettling the schemes of the Australian-based Nugan Hand bank, their involvement with Gerald Bull, assassinated last spring in Brussels and the development and distribution of fuel air explosive technologies.

http://www.american-buddha.com/bull.octopus.htm

MIMI controlled about 40 civilian agencies that were assigned responsibility for building commercial ventures such as the Badush Dam, petrochemical complex two (PC-2), and fertilizer factories and truck assembly factories. MIMI often used civilian activity as a front for procuring equipment used to produce weapons of mass destruction. Many Iraqi entities passed the materials from foreign suppliers directly to military projects. For example, Iraq used the Badush Dam as a front for purchasing equipment for the Condor II ballistic missile program. And PC-2 was used as a front to purchase components for Gerald Bull's super gun. Petrochemical complex three (PC-3) was the code name for Iraq's clandestine nuclear weapons program.
The scandal involving the Italian Banca Nazionale de Lavoro (BNL), which involved criminal behavior by both BNL and Iraqi officials, revealed the extent of Iraqi efforts to attract Western financial support for Iraq's military industrialization program. Iraq was pursuing technologically advanced, import-substituting, dual civilian-military industrialization in violation of Western export restrictions. Iraq received more than $5 billion worth of loans and credit commitments' from the Atlanta branch of BNL between 1985 and 1989, including some $900 million guaranteed by the U.S. Government's Commodity Credit Corp. Several employees of the Atlanta branch of BNL conspired to provide the Government of Iraq with over $4 billion in unreported loans by keeping a secret set of accounting records that concealed the loans to Iraq. The BNL loans were crucial to Iraqi efforts to build weapons of mass destruction. With the backing of President Bush, the State Department and National Security Council staff worked in 1989 and 1990 to keep the flow of United States credit, technology, and intelligence information flowing to Iraq despite repeated warnings by several other agencies and the evidence showing that Iraq used BNL loans to pay for United States technology destined for Iraq's missile, nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons programs.
