The Bush Administration: Always Worse Than Fiction
OK, so in my other other life (not my real life, which is a whole different story) I write these novels. They are mostly set on an island split between two different societies, one utopian and one dystopian. I use the dystopian one to vent my spleen about Bush's America. But you know what? No matter how bad I make my little fictional dystopia, I always find out that Bush's America is worse.

The one I'm working on now is called *Redemption.* A lot of it has to do with a private company called the Ruthlin Corporation that builds and manages prisons in partnership with the state. Since Ruthlin is a familiy business and has a strong fundamentalist bent, the prisons are known as Redemption Facilities, the big one being the Ruthlin Redemption Facility.

The problem is that although I wanted the Ruthlin Redemption Facility to be scary as shit, I cannot make it anywhere near scary enough to match reality. For one thing it's too well-run. Everyone knows who everyone is and where they're located and what their numbers are and so forth. For another thing, it just never occurred to me to have the guards doing anything to these people as perverse as what happened at Abu Ghraib. I guess I'm just not sick enough.

And then, I come on here to read a thread about our ultra-lame attempts to handle the Abu Ghraib scandal by destroying the prison itself, and I find out that two weeks ago Rumsfeld's visit served as the occasion to unveil the news that Abu Ghraib was going to be given a new shiny name: Camp Redemption!

Look! It's a real live Redemption Facility!

This has happened before as I've been working on this novel: I make something up and then 10 minutes later I find out it has a much worse real-life analogue. Since I am after all trying to take the current state of affairs and warp it, some of that is probably unavoidable. But sometimes these little coincidences are just spooky.

Yo, Bush people, if you're gonna be in my head at least get your genres straight: this is DYSTOPIAN SATIRE, not a How-To Book!

Argh,

The Plaid Adder

It is seriously scary, every time you think things can't get screwier and more Orwellian, they just go prove that theory wrong... :scared:

You'll find in the library... in most cases (unless it has already been purged)
It was published in the first half of the 20th century... so it might even be public domaine and be on the internet. I'll look and get back to you

...to their brand of "Christianity" (in quotes because the images we
have been seeing on the news lately don't seem like the sort of thing
that Christ would do).

They are running a Crusade over there.
