An editorial May 25, 2004
Here's some choice advice from Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition and now a Bush/Cheney campaign operative: Teach your children to be like President George W. Bush.
While singing the praises of the president, Reed made that recommendation to Republicans in La Crosse on Sunday at a prayer breakfast at the annual GOP state convention.
The advice is so awful it's laughable, but we do think Reed hit on a teachable moment. Here are a few things children could learn from President Bush:
* Don't lie, like the president did about why we needed to go to war against Iraq.
* Don't refuse to admit your mistakes and apologize, like the president did about not having a viable exit strategy from Iraq.
* Don't turn your back on your longtime friends, like the president did when he made a unilateral decision to attack Iraq against the advice and wishes of many allies.
In other words, kids, look elsewhere for a true role model.
