Rove claims he uncovered a Dean speech angrier then his Iowa Speech
Edited on Fri May-28-04 01:42 PM by ECH1969
Dean's angry Iowa outburst was not his first rant

Mr. Rove said in an interview with The Washington Times, he was not surprised when Mr. Dean compounded his big loss in the Iowa caucuses in January with an emotional rant that became fodder for late-night comics.
"That was not the first night he had a screed," Mr. Rove said.
He cited a speech by the former Vermont governor to the California Democratic Convention in Sacramento on March 15, 2003.
"We want our country back!" Mr. Dean thundered, drawing cheers from the party faithful. "I'm tired of being divided! I don't want to listen to the fundamentalist preachers anymore!
"I want America to look like America, where we are all included, hand in hand, walking down! We have a dream! We can only reach the dream if we are all together — black and white, gay and straight, man and woman! America! The Democratic Party! We are going to win in 2004!"
Mr. Rove said he considered the California speech angrier than the Iowa outburst 10 months later.
"Worse, worse, absolutely worse," he said. "In fact, we tested the dang thing. The peroration at the end is, like, 27 seconds long, so you can use it for television spots.
"And you just show it to people without any commentary. We showed it to people, and Democrats would say: 'Why does he hate gay people?' And it was because he was just so angry.
"And yet read how the press wrote it up: 'Dean energized them; took the campaign to a new level,' " Mr. Rove said. "What it tells us is, the press misses it."
Bush hatred is the "natural evolution of the politics of personal destruction, carried to its ultimate end," he said. "And what it becomes, ultimately, is self-destructive."

Does anyone know anything about this speech Rove uncovered? Is this just more Rovean BS? I suspect it is.

1. Why do you want to talk about Dean craziness?
What could POSSIBLY be the reason?

(hint: Gore gave a "crazy" speech that people are desperately trying to link to "crazy" Dean.)

11. Sure. It was Dean's GREAT speech at the California DNC convention.
When he first called out: "I want my country back! I want my party back! I'm Howard Dean and I represent the Democratic wing of the Democratic party!"

It was the speech that first drew large numbers of people to Dean.

What's hilarious here is that Rove is still bashing Dean 4 months after New Hampshire and more than 3 months after he dropped out of the race. Are they terrified of him or what?

30. This is simply delusional on Rove's part -- pure fabriction
First, there was nothing at all "angry" about the Iowa speech or his "scream" at the end of it. In fact, it couldn't have been further away from angry. His "scream" was triumphant, in fact, and delivered over the voices of cheering supporters -- about 3000 of them -- and his whole speech was simply about going onward and upward from there. Not a single whiff of anger of any kind, shape or form.

So Rove starts off with a completely erroneous premise (but he knows that).

The CA speech he's referring to is one that brought the California Democratic Convention to its feet a number of times. I watched it on TV -- it was galvanizing, unforgettable. It's the speech where he started out, "What I wanna know is ... (where have the Democrats been?)" I also wouldn't characterize that one as particularly angry either, unless saying you don't like Bush and want him replaced constitutes "anger." And if "being tired of being divided by race, color, relgion, sexual preference" is anger, then so be it. Damned righteous anger. But there's also a message of hope embedded in it: we don't have to live like that, we don't have to accept that, we can do better than that and we will without George W. Bush.

Rove knows very well what he's doing -- but why now? Apparently ole Howard is still a threat, and God love him for that!

John Kerry is the prospective Democratic candidate for president. Howard Dean is not.

DU will automatically shorten the link. Or you can click on "HTML lookup table" and it will tell you how to make a link yourself.

The problem with tinylink and others like it is that you can't tell what the source is without clicking on the link. Some people (like me) don't want to go to certain sources--Drudge, Newsmax, etc.

your post would almost be disingenuous if it wasn't so transparent. there isn't anything angry about dean. what the right tries to do (along with ad hominem attacks and using all manner of logical fallacy) is pathologize people.

as if any opinion contrary to the fundamentalist christian right wing weltanschauung is tantamount to evidence of psychosis.

you claim to be a dean supporter, but then have to ask the DU community about the speech? then in the next breath ask if it is rovean BS?

ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OR ROVE'S MOUTH IS BS!!!!

65. Locking......
From the rules.....

Do not publicly accuse another member of this message board of being a disruptor, troll, conservative, Republican, or FReeper. Do not try to come up with cute ways of skirting around the spirit of this rule. If you think someone is a disruptor, click the "Alert" link below their post so the moderators can deal with it. Unfortunately, it has become all too common for members of this message board to label anyone with a slightly different point of view as a disruptor. We disapprove of this behavior because its intent is to stifle discussion, enforce a particular "party line," and pre-emptively label a particular point of view as inappropriate or unwelcome. This makes thoughtful and open debate virtually impossible.
