Legal Activist Dies In Police Custody - Garofalo Was Pissed About This !!
<snip>

May Molina was arrested Monday night on the charge of possession of a controlled substance after officers raided her home in the 3500 block of North Halsted Street and found 80 tinfoil packets of heroin in a purse, police said.

Less than 48 hours later, Molina--a wheelchair bound woman who suffered from diabetes, asthma and a thyroid condition--was found unresponsive in her holding cell, police said. She was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

And...

Family members allege police framed Molina in retaliation for the work she was doing to expose police officers who allegedly harassed and coerced people into confessing to crimes they didn't commit. Molina founded the organization in hopes of clearing the name of her son, Salvador Ortiz, 35, who was convicted of murder in 1994 and sentenced to 47 years in prison.

"They raided her house last year and they didn't find anything, and then all of a sudden they find something," said friend Annabel Perez, 44. "They wanted her out." Geri McKenzie, who had been living with Molina since November and helped care for her, said there were no drugs in the house and accused police of framing Molina.

Any of you Chi-Town DUers have any info on this???

Garofalo was asking for more information, saying that the whole thing sounded really fishy!

1. Lesson: the cops hold absolute, unchecked power.
Stay out of their way unless you want to end up dead.

2. Ain't that the damn truth....
I know there are some good cops out there but the bad ones are practically untouchable even if they are caught on tape.

5. another quote from the article
"Jerry Bischoff, the family's attorney, said Molina clearly wasn't feeling well when he visited her at the police station about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Bischoff said he asked the officers to take Molina to the jail's Cermak Hospital after Molina told him she had not been allowed to take her medication.

But police maintain Bischoff never told them Molina needed medical attention."

7. the people with disabilities are always KILLED first.....

it's not unusual for people with diabetes to be KILLED in police custody...the American Diabetes Association has been working for years to improve police training so they don't KILL the people with diabetes...it only takes a few hours without medication for people with diabetes to DIE, and the police KILL many every year...so does bush*, with medical policies that won't pay for basic life-saving drugs for people with diabetes...everyday, over 500 people with diabetes DIE, but bush* doesn't care....

diabetes is a very fragile medical condition....over 200,000 Americans will DIE this year from diabetes, that's more than die from breast cancer AND AIDS combined....

yet, bush* will NEVER allow research or fund cures for diabetes (a cure would deprive his major pharmaceutical campaign donors of their profits off those who suffer disease)....and don't expect improvement in the treatment of prisoners under the bush* regime...

8. I also read an article today about an officer using a stun gun......
on a handcuffed 9 year old. Can't find the article now.
From the Miami protests. How can we look at this and not think such thoughts.

9. Police should only wear riot gear when there is actually a riot.
Police should only wear riot gear when there is actually a riot.

They shouldn't show up at a march dressed in riot gear.

That is an invitation to police brutality.

10. I saw the police spokesperson today
on local news saying that Molina also had 8 packets of heroin that were found inside her during the autopsy.

I will say, from experience, that unless you are very wealthy and can afford to "pay for my lunch" or you "know somebody wit da city", you do not fuck with the Chicago P.D.

May Molina wasn't the first, and she damn well won't be the last.

11. That's What Garofalo Was Saying Too, Except...
She made it sound like they knew about the Heroin in her stomach, but hadn't performed the autopsy yet???

:wtf:

Are the Coroner's of Cook County corrupt as well???

Sorry for the alliteration.

12. I saw it this morning,
so I don't know the exact thing he said, and they didn't say anything about a cause of death, but the report and the PD spokesperson were crucifying her for being a notorius heroin dealer. Anyone who knows about this case can tell you that it is a classic setup.

In the city of Chicago, the rule is:

"it's who you know, not what you know."

I used to work for a trucking company that in over 50 years had never gotten any tickets charged to it from a city or county policeman. Sure, the trucks were pulled over, and the tickets were issued (unless the driver had "lunch money"), but the company lawyer would just walk into court, have a short chat with the court clerk, and the ticket would just disapear. I saw this happen with my own eyes. It was a fucking joke.

I wouldn't be surprised if during the autopsy, a uniformed Chicago P.D. evidence tech was in there and "found" the packets. They can do what they want, and if you question it, you get "roughed up" a bit. If you keep pressing them, you end up in jail where one of the other inmates beats you to death, or you have a heart attack, or some other mysterious cause of death.

13. Lovely...
My old man used to be a police reporter in the Cook Co. Jail many years ago. Knew, and worked with the dude who wrote "The Front Page". He had some stories from that place as well.

We need another Serpico, it would seem.

14. Won't happen.
Things in Chicago have not changed from Ritchie the elder's time. They've put a new face on the P.D., made sure to have more minorities out in front of the cameras, but it still operates just like it has for over 100 years now.

The whole city government is a joke. City council is a rubber stamp. Ritchie the younger has more power than the Gov. of Illinois. Chicago is pretty much a state unto itself. Cook County and the surrounding counties (which do generate most of the tax dollars for the state) have very little in common with the rest of the state.

May Molina was killed because she took that step that is generally regarded as suicide in Chicago. The Chicago P.D. has proven it's point once again.
