Kanjorski Supports Reinstating the Draft
Interesting that he announced this in the paper today...wonder if it was because I sent the congressmen and senators emails about this on Tuesday and demanded they tell their constituents about the twin bills: S89 and HR 163.

Kanjorski Supports Reinstating the Draft

BY LYNNE SLACK SHEDLOCK THE SCRANTON TIMES 05/28/2004

U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, has issued a statement saying he "fully supports" reinstating the draft, but not because he backs "a blanket effort" to send more troops to Iraq.

In a press release delivered to the Times-Tribune newspapers late Thursday, Mr. Kanjorski said he supports bringing back selective service because it is unfair for a small percentage of the population to "carry the weight of the nation."

-snip-
"Americans will be less likely to support entering into war unless they believe in it 100 percent when it is their loved ones who are putting their lives on the line," he said.

-snip-
Rumors about a possible draft led the Selective Service System to post a notice on its Web site saying it is not getting ready to conduct any type of draft. The notice also says both the president and secretary of defense have said repeatedly there is no need for a draft.

1. well, young draft-age people are really BEGGING for it.....

over and over, young people claim that they won't get motivated to protest the war, or to even vote UNLESS THERE IS A DRAFT....

at our Kerry meet-up yesterday, three young people (the only THREE that attended out of 100 people) told us that ONLY THE DRAFT will motivate their age group....

lots of older people have now noticed that hardly any YOUNG people go to Pro-Peace rallies, most say they won't vote.....so the DRAFT is simply a response to their needs....claiming they need a draft to get motivated....HERE IT COMES !

if you don't want the draft...VOLUNTEER NOW to march against the war...if the older decision-makers once again see hardly any young people objecting, then it won't take long for them to start the draft...

June 5th in DC, LA, SF and other cities/towns across America...

2. Super. I favor the draft.
I loathe the all volunteer army as a concept. It's just wrong.

And may this be the last time not one member of Congress has family in the fight.

3. "volunteer" military makes it too easy to go to war....because
nobody views WAR today as their issue....it simply doesn't affect them at all....most of today's young people do not march in Pro-Peace rallies, do not VOTE, and didn't attend the recent Kerry meet-ups (as evidenced by photos on Kerry's web page)....

with a DRAFT, all families in America (including Congressional families) would have a special interest in the issue of WAR...and then, WAR would not be leaped into so cheerfully....

in addition, a DRAFT would add a semblance of 'regular people' to the military...the current make-up of OUR volunteer military today is way too often a bunch of psychotic killers, who ENJOY torturing and killing other humans...if there were some regular normal people in the military, it would lend more 'values' to the military, and abuses would be exposed by people of conscience way earlier than now...

WAR is such a waste of money and time...spending $$$$BILLIONS to destroy everything and then spending more $$$$BILLIONS to build it back up again....

a LOT of people are now with you, aquart....IMO, if there are few young people out at the Pro-Peace marches on June 5th, then the DRAFT is a given...it's time now....
