my favourite Bill & Hillary photo
Ok it's because I took it but it reminds me of when the world was a nicer place.

It was 1997 at 'Lady MacQuarie's Chair' just above the Sydney Opera House on a sunny spring day at mid-day and Bill addressed a crowd of 40,000 who began arriveing from 7am.

Later Hillary adressed a crowd of 500 prominent women, including many conservative politicians at the Opera House.

The reception both received was raptuous.

Fast forward to 2003 and George W Bush is visiting Canberra and he needs a small army of police with every street blocked off to protestors..not even one single group of locals cheer him, instead thousand's of protestors gather in every city of Australia and when he adresses Parlaiment he is jeered by a Greens Senator.

How things change.

5. Thanks for the picture
I printed it out and added the below to it and stuffed it, along with a Reuters news story of Rummy approving the Iraqi interrogation plan in their campaign contribution envelope.

William J. and Hillery Clinton

Now here is a real President. Clinton is articulate. He wrote his own speeches. He was (still is) popular, would “swim” in the crowds world wide. His speech audiences did not need have to have security clearances. He did not have scripted 'news' conferences, could answer reporters questions, intelligently. America and the world was much safer with the last legally elected President. Ten of thousands did not die in illegal wars for other nations oil either. The present administration is guilty of war crimes and wholesale violations of the Geneva Convention. The actions of George Walker Bush has made the world less safe. Terrorism is on the rise. Bush's War is obviously not the correct answer. And you want me to vote for Bush? I don't think so.

6. almost brings tears to my eyes
Man I miss having a real human being in the White House. I'm not one of those people who "worshiped" Clinton as the best thing ever, and I disagreed with some of the things he did (i.e. NAFTA, the way he handled Welfare Reform, etc) but I always had, and still have, tremendous respect for him, and think he was the best President we've had in recent history. Think what he could have accomplished for this nation had he not been handcuffed and maligned by the hostility of the extreme right wingers that have taken over the Republican party. Think of the progress that could have been made.

The man still has the respect and admiration of the world. So does Hillary. His intelligence, his openness, his respect for and appreciation of other cultures and peoples and ideas. How did we replace that with the monster we now have? What happened?

Anyway, I've saved that picture. It is a wonderful photo. I hope you don't mind, but that's my new PC wallpaper.

and it's a sell out every time.
I'm looking forward to him doing a book tour here.

I think Australia would easily adopt him as our President as well.

7. For every action, an equal and opposite reaction
I just realized how we went from scintillating Hillary and competent Bill to Stepford Laura and dumb-as-a-rock George.
