The story behind the story of the Ashcroft terrorist alarm....
When the news broke that Brandon Mayfield, the attorney held without bond for more than a week, had been cleared of the charges Ashcroft and the FBI had placed against him, Ashcroft was expecting a huge outcry from the public, in my opinion, and he convinced Mueller of the FBI that he would also be blamed. Also they came out in tandem, without the knowledge of the Homelnd Security, and gave a terrorist threat that they thought would turn the blame from themselves for such a screw-up as arresting an attorney without cause. Then Tom Ridge disputed the evidence they put forth. Not a good day for Mr Ashcroft or Mr Mueller....

1. I hadn't thought of this
But it makes sense. The Mayfield arrest and persecution has sent up red flags among Muslims, and tends to bolster the idea that the Bush Administration is on a crusade to destroy Islam. And I think that Shrub is finally catching on to the fact that this really isn't helping matters. No wonder As. and Mu. did the fast shuffle.

2. According to NBC news
Lisa Myer reported that the terrorist group Ashcroft alerted us to was one guy with a FAX machine.

3. Hagmann, Quayle and Reynalds
and other self-made terrorist 'experts' are the real terrorists. They are the source of most of this misinformation and chatter.
