Republican father is now voting for Kerry too!
A few days ago, I posted how my conservative mum, after watching the Berg news (his family are old friends of her family) decided to vote Kerry.

Well, talking with my VERY Tory conservative dad, he just told me HE'S voting for Kerry!

Not because he agrees with him, he is quick to say. He thinks Kerry is an "elite liberal." But he thinks Bush is a "disgusting liar who is 10 times more of a liar than Bill Clinton." Now coming from my Clinton-despising father, that's quite an indictment.

So that's two loyal Republican true believers, fed up with Bush, pledging Kerry votes in a swing state. And if my conservative parents are in this mode, there have to be millions of others in similar straits.

We've GOT to push the "dishonest and incompetent" memes. Hard.

2. Give them my congrats.
It is hard for people to abandon ideologies that they have long held and get real. That they can do so is a testament to their essential character.

Now, get out there and buy them the two David Brock books. Keep their process moving. ;-)

3. Each day...
...I become more confident that many repubs will be doing the same thing. Come November we'll see an unprecedented landslide for Kerry.

4. In other words, "Bush Must Go." They've decided that regardless of
any merits or lack thereof on the part of Kerry, the importance of ousting Bush supercedes all.

Personally I think Kerry will be a fine president but I agree that ousting Bush and his cabal is the single most important aspect of this election. I don't know why some people seem to have a problem with that.

5. By the way, did you have discussions/arguments with your Dad during
this time, or did he come to these conclusions all by himself?

6. I don't talk politics with him often, except on areas. . .
. . . where we have some agreement, such as honesty in politicians and some economic theories.

He did make a few comments about Bush that surprised me -- including blasting him for the "outrageous growth in spending and the deficit" and also saying the Iraq war was "poorly thought out and a mistake."

I certainly didn't convince him to not vote for Bush, since he and mum had nothing but bad things to say about Al Gore and my preferred candidate in the primaries (who did not win).

7. To me, this is more encouraging than even if you had convinced him. It
means that conservatives with a modicum of intelligence, can, even with our incredibly poor media coverage of Bushco, come to a conclusion that Bush Must Go, without having to be led there by concerned family/friends. For every one like your Dad there must be many others.

8. I admire people
who are staunch repugs who will vote for Kerry. I cannot imagine myself voting repug under any circumstances. But that is the way I am. A died in the wool democrat, besides my mom said she would cut my hands off if I ever voted for a republican. I am 68 and still do what my mom tells me to.

10. I didn't educate them much at all. . .
They came to this conclusion of their own volition.

11. Hey matcom can you post the link to your "we can win if you kick this"
thread, had a nice summary. I agree with the concepts, like mailing whole articles not links, etc.

13. GREAT for your Dad. My 68 year old Repub Dad is voting for Kerry
Bush is losing a lot of those "Rockefeller Republicans" who don't like the government spending money and interfering in their business. My father is outraged by the Patriot Act, the War in Iraq, and Chimpy's celebration of dumbassness.

I still disagree with a lot of the moderate REpubs - But I'll take their votes for Kerry!

relatives and some are so right-wing it's sickening. We don't even bring up Bush 'cause its such a knock down topic. It's like the elephant (no pun intended!) in the room! I do have one sister who is a moderate who is open to discuss what has been happening with Iraq and is beginning to see the truth! I know how you feel.

16. Clinton lied ONCE ...

About a blow job. All the other "lies" turned out to be lies from the right. That is, the people who are currently in power.

The amazing testament to the Republican bias in the media is the fact that they won't call Bush on ANY of it. Clinton had to fight off complete bullshit all eight years he was in office.

Seriously, EVERYTHING this administration says is a lie.
