Rove Phones Brazile, and other BEA tidbits
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 10:59 AM by villager
from today's Publisher's Lunch, reporting on this weekend's BEA -- Book Expo of America -- in Chicago:

Former head of Al Gore's presidential campaign Donna Brazile scores a NYTimes profile upon the release of her memoir, COOKING WITH GREASE. After the 2000 election, "I thought I'd died politically. No one wanted Gore people around. I thought, `Why have I given my entire life to this?' and was bitter, bitter, bitter. When I was being kicked to the curb, you know who it was who called me? It was Karl Rove. He'd say, `Donna, you doing O.K.?'"

Brazile will be at BEA, as part of the attempt to recreate last year's surprisingly scrappy political luncheon with Bill O'Reilly and Al Franken. This year, though, C-Span's Brian Lamb will moderate, and he tells the AP: "Moderators can do one of two things: They can just step back and let people slug it out or they can act like a nanny, or a ninny, if you will," Lamb said. "But I don't expect anything like the Franken-O'Reilly debate this year. These are four people who are professionals in politics, not in the business of high-stakes personality book publishing."

1. Idn't dat sweet? Throw the election and your opponent calls to console
That Rove would call her proves he knew he owed her for so poorly managing Gore's campaign.

Brazile is the most incompenent campaign manager ever. :grr:

4. It just shows you how she not only misses the boat, she lets her
heart rule her head. AW, wasn't that SWEET of him, 'eh?

Yeah, right. And I'm laura bush.

Sometimes rattlesnakes rear up and DON'T strike. Sometimes scorpions just sit there and do nothing. That doesn't mean they've just turned all soft and warm and fuzzy and nice-nice and you can then pick them up and give 'em hugs, dearie.

Donna, you were too busy pulling your punches. Thanks but no thanks.

I've seen her face off on TV spin panels where she was the lone Democrat against a conservative, a wingnut and a complete asshole. And WHEN she bothered to respond - usually being WAY too polite to butt in and call the other guys on their lies and their crap OR to give any sort of even halfway-forceful rebuttal (she'd rather wait to be called on) - she offered such a poor defense it was like sending a banana slug out to battle against three pit bulls. Just embarrassing. Donna - do us all a favor. PLEASE switch parties and go work for bush. Whoever thought SHE would be an effective campaign manager must have been smokin' something...

5. She said some of the nastiest things about Edwards I heard from pundits

She was constantly discounting every triumph he had, big and small.

The thought I had the most often after hearing her comment on the primaries was, "now that doesn't help Demcrats very much!"

6. Well, who had the wondferful skill
in giving her a top campaign job in the first place? I've been sayuing much too arrogantly that the party seems to have lost the knowledge of Politics 101. Regrettably, I wasn't going far enough. A lot of other campaign managers who make the eel Rove look like a "genius" are walking that narrow path to idiotic defeat as well, but will never suffer financially like the people they are supposed to be fighting for.

Damn all inside power clubs holding hands and ingratiating themselves with each other. In this century almost all leadership is shamefully inadequate if not downright criminal.

7. Maybe she was the one...
... pushing that "alpha male" horsehit onto Gore, which effectively lost him the election.

In any event, I wish she'd just become a stinking Republican, she is already a failure like a Rep and she already has the stench of one as well.

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
