The GOP's 11th Commandment

...or, follow the party line or pay.

Refusal to sign the so called, "11th Commandment"- not to speak ill of other Republicans, keeps a potential state candidate from speaking at a state convention.

The convention debated the speak-no-evil rule. A violation brings a $5,000 fine from the state party.

Backers it says it promotes civility. Ronald Reagan formulated it supposedly to keep barbs aimed at Democrats.
(One wonders if that was Reagan or Bush I)

Delegates upheld the rule.

Does it ever occur to these people how "communist" this sounds?

1. Yeah, but it works

That's the shame of it. All our internal bickering makes us (Democrats) look divided, while they look unified. It's a hard rule to follow though, and they don't follow it all the time. I suspect that as the Bush administration continues to implode we will see more and more criticisms and mea culpas from previous administration supporters.

His attacks on McCain were beyond decency.
