KCAA - San Bernadino: Randi Rhodes most popular program
... The station is also picking up two Air America personalities, Al Franken, carried daily at 3-4 and 5-6 p.m., and Randi Rhodes at 6-7 p.m.

... the station has been getting such a good response to Nick La Capria's "Sports Nuts" show that it has been inserted into the daily 4-5 p.m. slot between the two Franken broadcasts. And one of them may soon be dropped to make way for an extra hour of Rhodes. "Her program is the most popular one we carry," Lundgren says.

1. Does it pain you, though?
She also mentioned reporters following her - so coverage will follow. bad times for AAR and Randi's enemies.

3. Doesn't pain me at all
I'm sure there is a small twinge of pain from the many Rhodes detractors here, though.

Imagine that! She "whines" and dares not follow the DU media critics' advice yet she's still kicking ass.

2. Aren't there enough sports shows???
YES there are..

I am glad that KCAA is covering some of the AA programming, but they are carrying it on "tape" , so no one here can call in..

They would be wise to take the whole thing..LIVE.. Their listernship would increase dramatically.. They would be the ONLY station in MILES with all liberal programming...

They are just not brave enough yet...

Letters...phone calls....:)

4. This is great. I thought Air America wouldn't syndicate their shows.
I thought they were just trying to buy stations to run all of their programs.

Can anyone clear this issue up for me? I think it is good news, just wondering if they changed their business plan.

5. Randi is my favorite program on AA
Except for MAYBE Frankin. Randi drives me nuts - she does NOT listen to callers - but she sure is funny and entertaining. :) They need to bring on Guy James too.

9. okay, let's say she often ignores the content of their call
Like I said, I love Randi, but she often ignores her callers, rambles over them on a unrelated topic, and often "corrects" the callers when they are in fact correct, and she is wrong. (I've suggested she get a co-host to take calls). But still, I love Randi, listening to her right now.

10. interesting - I've heard her take four calls since you made your statement
..and now a fifth... and she is conversing with them, listening responding...

...guess I just don't see (or hear) your point.

and often "corrects" the callers when they are in fact correct, and she is wrong.

Like... when?

7. I just got off the phone with KCAA
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 05:01 PM by SoCalDem
On sundays they start at 7 am and run all day .."Best of Air America"..

Here's the scary part...businesses are AFRAID to advertise with them..

They are under contract to carry Imus for another year, but the manager WANTS to make it an ALL air america station..

Their problem is this.. they NEED the advertising dollars that the non AAS shows bring in..

They calculate ratings by phone calls to random households, and since it's in the belly of the republican beast, the "polled" ratings will probably never reflect the REAL ratings..

They NEED advertising from some brave businesses, and then the dam will burst.. She as much as told me that once a few come on board, the rest will follow, but they are afraid..

If you are in So Cal...call them 909-885-8502...and tell them how much you appreciate their coverage.. She was very happy to talk to me and said that they reallllly appreciated feedback:)

you could even call them and say you were listening to them online

11. I'm still amazed that folks don't realize...

...that her kvetching" shtick" is what snaps your head around, makes you sit up and take notice---then once she's got your attention, she hits the listener with the facts, almost always spiced with a neat zinger at the end---to keep you entertained AND like the best of comedians do---to make you remember the "joke", or rather what she just said.

When she goes off, second for second, she gives listeners so much information it's almost scary. The bottom line is, she does good radio---plain and simple. AND she's the most seasoned radio person they have---although Franken has been a masterfully quick study (Hey, he spent years working in a comedy TEAM. There's no better way to pick up comic timing.).

Best of all, she just refuted on-air the insipid "She's-a-gonna-kwit!" rumors put out by freepers, lurkers, tin-ears and schadenfreudes near and far.

And amid the varying tone of AAR's progressive message (a necessary variance in texture I thnk) She's the one AAR personality the far right has deigned to obviously target. The people one p*sses off speaks volumes about the person p*ssin' em off.

Go Randi, go!

8. Hah
I knew it. I'm not bananas about Randi, but I've always thought that someone with the same imperious take-no-shit bombast that's the stock in trade of the right would do really well from the left. That sort of I'm-right-you're-wrong toughness can go a long way toward convincing fencesitters and even some from the other side. Good for Randi, good for us.
