The Corporation -- Zinn, Moore, Chomsky...it's a documentary made for DU
Edited on Sun Jun-13-04 12:38 AM by AP
It discusses corporate person-hood, Smedley Butler and the attempted fascist coup against FDR, IBM's assistance of the Nazis, Monsanto's suicide seeds, Bechtel's water privatization BS in Bolivia (where the people won, but only after 6 people died for water), Kathy Lee Gifford and central american sweat shops, FOX killing the story about rBST Milk in Florida, and more...much more.

By the way, notice how the people of Bolivia beat the fascist. The army and the police stayed in their barracks. You know what that means? Time to destroy the public sector (and its ability to provide decent paying jobs and social security and pensions) and privatize the military so that they're loyal to a corporation and their retirement plans and so they don't quit on you when you're making them crack the heads of their brothers and sisters.

Also, if you don't leave this movie thinking that we need to elect politicians who care about making corporations behave like responsible citizens you weren't awake during the movie.

Iraq is just a piece of the puzzle. The real issue is creeping (or galloping) fascism.

By the way, get a load of the one decent CEO in America: a NC'ian carpet manufacturer named, IIRC, Neil Anderson. His company is the largest in the world in its sector and they're committed to leaving no "footprint" by 2030 -- he says that guys like him in the near future should be in jail if they did what he was doing a couple years ago, which he descrived as plunder and as an immoral tax on future generations. This guy was incredibly

2. Monsanto suicide seeds = the death of birth, war on evolution.
Edited on Sun Jun-13-04 12:52 AM by AP
They're the seeds that grow into plants that don't produce seeds.

If you don't have a contract to buy another batch the next year, you can't grow more food.

It means a corporation has total control over growing food.

It's privatizing EVERYTHING. Air, water, and now sustenance.

7. Monsanto found that some of the farmers were saving seed from a year's
crop. That's a practice popular in the third world. That way they could afford to plant again if prices were too low. Monsanto considered that theft, so they made the suicide seed.

One problem with GM seed is the pollen moves from field to field, altering the genetic make up of the neighbor's crop. Without knowing it, he could be violating Monsanto patents.

5. Dupont and JPMorgan plotted a fascist coup in '34 because FDR was trying
to flow more wealth down to the working class and we was trying to make capitalism work.

He wanted to reduce the ability of corporations to make money off the swings -- from chaos to chaos -- they controlled through defacto control of government.

(Just adding this post to these corporations credit.)

9. link to coup attempt?
I hear rumors of stuff like this, but want to know more. I do think there was a conspiracy in wireless and electricity production to keep us tied to fossil fuels and to Telsa's 1st generation stuff. Tesla claimed it was all obsolete by the turn of the century (1900), but the reports are Morgan or some other business interests had too much at stake in the first generation power grid, which is what we still use today, and apparently are still stuck with.

14. Here is something ....

http://members.tripod.com/~american_almanac/morgan3.htm

Snip

On Nov. 21, The New York Times, a paper that Heywood Broun once described as ``black with the shoepolish of Morgan,'' took the lead in this campaign, with a front-page two-column article under the headline: ``General Butler Bares `Fascist Plot' to Seize Government by Force.'' Having already put the words `fascist plot' in quotes, the paper led with:

``A plot of Wall Street interests to overthrow President Roosevelt and establish a fascist dictatorship backed by a private army of 500,000 ex-soldiers and others, was charged by Major General Smedley D. Butler, retired Marine Corps officer, who appeared yesterday before the House Un-American Activities Committee, which began hearings on the charges.''

The Times avoided providing on the front page an account of the charges as given by the committee co-chairs and instead, citing ``sources in Philadelphia,'' the paper claimed that Butler had named Morgan and Murphy as being behind a plan under which the former NRA administrator Hugh Johnson ``was scheduled for the role of dictator.''
