There's something to be said about funerals...
When the oil runs out 30 years* from now and people die off, who's going to be in the funeral industry? They're going to make billions.

Or will society still maintain the dignity that funerals offer?

The notion of an afterlife is charming and I hope it's true. Life has got to be more than telling others that an afterlife exists and you get there only if you're good but then control life to make it bad for everybody except themselves... Except religion, much like science, is inconsistent with its teachings. One chapter doesn't match up with another. Look up "Thalt shalt not kill" then look for certain bible passages relating to spouses who commit infidelity, for but one example...
