Cuba: Comments on Reagan weren't official

HAVANA -- Cuba clarified its position on former President Ronald Reagan, saying Friday that a harsh editorial aired on state radio after his death was not the government's official opinion.

''News media around the world have echoed said comments, presenting them as an official declaration by Cuban authorities,'' read a statement published Friday in the Communist Party daily Granma.

State-run Radio Reloj on Monday repeatedly broadcast its editorial commenting on Reagan's death, saying he ''never should have been born.'' It lambasted his military policies, especially the ''Star Wars'' antimissile program.

1. The personal aspect of anyone death is sad.
But that does not mean we have to lie about that persons legacy, particularily when we are not family.
I think the world would have been better without Reagan, even if he had never been president..Look at him as head of Screen Actors Guild. He was a red baiter..Did not condem the blacklist.
As president, his policies are calamitious. Dubya will carry on the Starwars boondoggle, with full speed ahead- thanks to the early work of RR...Of course, Clinton could have done more to cool down this foolishness...
Are we supposed to be offended by the Cuban state radio?
