Oma Abdullah and son Mustapha, holding a photo of his father who died in U.S. custody

I wonder if the son will someday attend a Florida Flight School?

26. don't be fooled
There are similar horrors committed in our jails ever day. Its that mentality "us against them" "we good guys they bad". I've worked in corrections and have seen it. In addition to the sheer horror of the abuses, the reason the abuses make me so angry is that I know that lack of training is a cause of these types of horror. Our military has an obligation to properly prepare our troops (in addition to arm and protect). You will hear neocons say that Bush has improved the military from what was left to him by Clinton, well I disagree. The prison abuses is a perfect example of how poorly trained they are.
Please, won't our military and the administration support our troops.

US troops like to round up the kids of their prisoners and beat and rape them in order to intimidate the prisoners. But than again, U.S. troops already killed his dad, so it's not like he's going to talk. Maybe they'll just do it out of spite.

I can count on one hand the photos I've seen that made me cry and this was one of them. It sums up so much of what is wrong with American attitudes and the media portrayal of this war. Iraqi's are not viewed as real human beings. We rarely hear Iraqi casualty numbers. This photo is what war is about.

administration. Within that photo are all the memos trying to go around the rule of law to justify torture and murder, all the lies about WMD, all the Iraqis that have died for what? All the US soldiers that have died for what?

I can see little difference from what Saddam did to what the US is doing and, I suspect, neither can the people in the photograph.

The investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who revealed the extent of the abuse, warned earlier last week: "It's going to get much worse. This kind of stuff was much more widespread.

"There are videotapes of stuff that you wouldn't want to mention on national television ... There were things done to young boys."

According to the New Yorker magazine the photos and videos so far unreleased by the Pentagon show American soldiers "having sex with a female Iraqi prisoner", and a secret report by General Antonio Taguba into the scandal confirms that US guards videotaped and photographed naked female prisoners and that "a male MP guard" is shown "having sex with a female detainee".

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1214698,00.html

Hilas also said he witnessed an Army translator having sex with a boy at the prison. He said the boy was between 15 and 18 years old. Someone hung sheets to block the view, but Hilas said he heard the boy's screams and climbed a door to get a better look. Hilas said he watched the assault and told investigators that it was documented by a female soldier taking pictures.

"The kid was hurting very bad," Hilas said.

The Taguba report confirms that some women were indeed raped by American G.I.'s. There is one photo of an American soldier having sex with an Iraqi woman.

..."She was the only woman who would talk about her case. She was crying. She told us she had been raped. Several American soldiers had raped her. She had tried to fight them off, and they had hurt her arm. She showed us the stitches. She told us, 'We have daughters and husbands. For God's sake don't tell anyone about this.' "

Although the Taguba report makes specific reference to the abuse of female Iraqi prisoners, the Bush administration has refused to release photos of Iraqi women forced at gunpoint to bare their breasts?no doubt to spare Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld further embarrassment.

Swadi and six other female Iraqi lawyers began investigating claims of sexual assault late last year after a note reportedly written by a prisoner named Noor was smuggled out of Abu Ghraib. The note claimed that US soldiers were raping female detainees, and in some cases, such as that of Noor herself, getting them pregnant. Swadi then began interviewing detainees who said they too had been assaulted or had witnessed assaults, The Guardian reports.

June 10, 2004
U.S. military personnel have raped and sexually abused Iraqi women held at Abu Ghraib prison and other detention facilities.

Amal Kadham Swadi, an Iraqi attorney representing women detainees, told The Guardian she believes that sexualized violence and abuse committed by U.S. soldiers against female prisoners goes far beyond a few isolated cases. It's "happening all across Iraq," she said.

They can fuck each other behind closed tents, that's consensual and their business. But this is an outrage. Big-time. Aren't our troops supposed to be liberating the country? This certainly isn't liberation... and their acts are treasonous, the acts of TRUE traitors, for what they are doing is damaging America's reputation and credibility for decades to come.

46. Interrogation abuses were "approved at highest levels"
June 13, 2004

New evidence that the physical abuse of detainees in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay was authorised at the top of the Bush administration will emerge in Washington this week, adding further to pressure on the White House.

...The leak appears to be part of an extraordinary civil war in the Pentagon between civilian officials and uniformed officers appalled by what they have described as moves by political appointees to shroud the war on terrorism in an "environment of legal ambiguity".

..."There are some extremely damaging documents around, which link senior figures to the abuses," said Scott Horton, the former chairman of the New York Bar Association, who has been advising Pentagon lawyers unhappy at the administration's approach. "The biggest bombs in this case have yet to be dropped."
