8:45 ET: C-Span Will Clinton's book tour help or hurt Kerry?
Interesting answers on democrats' side. Repugs are still going nuts about Clinton... if only for this, I hope Clinton shows up EVERYWHERE..
One repug said: due to Reagan's death, the flags were at half-mast. When Clinton dies, are the democrats going to have their zippers at half mast? (I guess that means all zippers?)... These repugs....

1. Another repug: it will hurt. She has seen both Clinton and Bush:
Clinton just "rolls" his eye and has no contact with the audience. Bush is sincere and talks to the people.
This woman is military working in the Pentagon...

2. bill clinton isn't running for office, so how would his book hurt Kerry?
Other than setting an example of how a president should act....?

5. It can't and won't but Clinton must be bashed
he must always be accused of trying to steal the spotlight from every other Dem pol - don't you know the script by now? He will be accused of this until the day he dies. CSPAN is, as usual catering to the wingnut crowd as they always do.

27. We're talking about Washington Journal, right?
That show has its ups and downs. As far as call-in shows go, it's about as balanced as one could expect. Thing is, wingnuts tend to line up to air their wacko opinions on that show in larger numbers than their counterparts on the left. I've seen this happen many times.

Usually, the host asks leading questions with the aim of getting the caller to expound a bit on his or her opinions. That's what keeps the show going. Hosts will also ask questions that challenge these statements as well, often citing newspaper articles and such. You don't see this nearly as often on similar shows on commercial TV.

Since the hosts rotate, you get hosts from across the political spectrum. That's just the way it goes. My suggestion is, step up to the plate and call in rather than changing the channel in disgust. If the wingnuts are the only ones calling, the impression is created that their opinions are held by the majority.

29. So? We don't need to defend him. Just point to bush...
it all works itself out. And it lets the GOP hyperventilate in circles...

6. Believe you me... it is going to help. If you got over 12,000 people
into Lawrence KANSAS to listen to him (for his Dole center lecture--remember they had scheduled it for the 2,000 capacity auditorium and tickets (free) ran out during the first half hour they were available--(they limited them to 2 per person), they made the decision to move it. and if you saw how energized the crowd was in a really HOT auditorium (nobody left) you KNOW it is going to help Kerry.

8. I thought the guy said Clinton was a
"whore"monger! And the host let it stand. I switched off the channel at that point. It is a travesty how c-span has turned almost completely rig th wing. We're lucky they still cover any Democratic venues at all. This question gives the wingnuts one more opportunity at Clinton-bashing and Roger Lamb knows it.

11. You must be right. Because warmonger does not make any sense when
comparing Clinton to Bush. Sorry about the missquote...not intentional.

7. So Clinton might steal Kerry's thunder but Reagan helped W?
You are right this is a biased question but I suspect we will hear much more of this. The odd part will be when they start saying that Kerry can't be his own man while W will be doing campaign commercials from Reagan's grave.

22. From MSN Encarta Dictionary
whore·mon·ger < háwr mùnggər, háwr mònggər > (plural whore·mon·gers)

noun

an offensive term for a sexually indiscriminate man, especially one who frequents prostitutes ( archaic )

whore·mon·ger·y noun

Bettie's Note: Mostly used by EXTREMELY religious nutballs to describe people who they simply don't like or approve of!

21. Remember what happened when he was trying to read the "Little Goat"
to children? That was all his little brain could handle...the WTC attack didn't have any space to share in his mind...
He wouldn't even try...and his keepers are smart enough NOT to allow him to do it!

People will listen to this brilliant man and ask, "who do you endorse for President and why?"

Clinton will give all the facts and all the reasons why Kerry is the best choice.

26. May help with the independent/undecideds
who seem to be the center of the Universe right now.

The book probably won't have any effect on either base, but it is practically guaranteed that the freepers and the freeper pundits will go into an orgy of Clinton hate when the book is released. That will kill the meme the Repugs have been pushing about how all Democrats do is hate Bush and wish for bad news. The freepers will be shown for the haters and hypocrits they are.

3 years, holds no office, so why leap to his defense?

He's a cool dude, I just love him, but let's focus on real issues... I'm not going to waste time defending clinton for anything. It's just ammo and fodder for the gopers.

30. The responses went straight down the party line. Democrats
viewed Clinton as an assett to Kerry, repugs did not. This, to me, demonstrates that the repugs are scared to death of Clinton. They KNOW he will help.

31. HELP. How could it be more obvious?
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 09:03 AM by John_H
So let me get the rethug spinmiester/mediawhore logic here. The book will hurt Kerry because the media will cover Clinton instead of Kerry, which is to assume that in the world of mediawhores, that Kerry gets a finite amount of coverage which is eaten into by any other news. On the other hand, Chimp gets as much news as he wants.

If this is true, we're fucked anyway so Clinton can write as many books as he wants and it will have no effect.

What I think is going to happen is that, thanks to Clinton's book, the Dems will get roughly equal time with the GOP for about a week. Kerry does get less coverage than chimp, but they're not going to stop covering him. Combined, we'll get as much press as the GOP does every week.
