The Legislature is expected to adjourn early so that Republican lawmakers can attend the convention, set for Aug. 30-Sept. 2. But if Schwarzenegger publicly commits to going on a certain day, Democrats could conceivably keep the Legislature in session to embarrass him. Or they could extract promises from Schwarzenegger as the price for leaving early.
