I wanna hear some macho tough talk from Kerry
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 08:34 PM by TexasSissy
I just saw Bush on TV react to the Paul Johnson beheading, and I heard a quote from Cheney. Both definitive, determined, macho statements that say this beheading was not justified in any way, and we're gonna go after those guys, one by one. (I know it's puff, not substance.)

But I sure would like to hear something bold, definitive, strong, and manly come out of the mouth of the Democratic presumptive nominee.

I'm just so angry over this newest beheading and scared for the thousands of workers still in Saudi Arabia. Are the terrorists going to kidnap someone here in America next? The Democrats have a history of being thought of as kinda wimpy. Kerry's a military guy. He comes off as soft and gentle, but I know he must have that macho stuff inside of him.

I don't mean ranting, raving, or pounding fists on a table. But something strong that would indicate to Americans that he can be a strong leader when these sorts of things happen, that he can make us feel safer and that things are in good hands.

Waddya say? Shouldn't he throw us a bone? Show us he can be strong and resolute and lead under these circumstances?

2. I'd rather hear him say that we were warned Americans would
become the targets of extremists if we waged this war based on the religious talk of this admin.

Kerry Statement on the Murder of Paul Johnson

June 18, 2004

For Immediate Release
Washington, DC

Senator John Kerry issued the following statement today on the murder of Paul Johnson:

“My prayers and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Paul Johnson. Americans are united against the terrorists who committed this abhorrent act against an American civilian in Saudi Arabia. It is essential that we have the full cooperation of the Saudi government in tracking down these terrorists and destroying al Qaeda. This must be our nation’s highest priority.”

A very safe statement. If he came out blasting Bush, he'd be seen by the average person as being a douchebag.

7. I am bold definitive, strong and out spoken all the time...tough too
But I'm a woman. Did you really mean to say manly? Do you think you would ever be comfortable voting for a woman because she would not project the bully/father image that makes you feel safe?

I doubt you remember JFK. I don't think he projected a manly macho persona. But he was the ultimate in strength when he got us through the cuban missile crisis by refusing to attack Cuba and facing down the USSR.

One of the most masculine men I ever knew was a friend who was gay. You knew it the minute you met him. But he was strong willed and you knew you could trust him. He was honest and straight forward. He certainly had no macho bravado.

I don't think of bush or cheney as strong or trust worthy, nor do they make me feel safe. Bush struts around in his weird toe walking gate. Cheney snears like a cartoon character. They are both spoiled rich men who haven't done a damn thing for themselves in years. I don't think bush ever has had to get a real job.

I think they have weak characters and can not be trusted. There is nothing masculine about that.

9. Yes, I meant to say "manly." Yes, I am a woman and feminist.
If our nominee were a woman, I wouldn't have said "manly." But he's a guy.

The Presidential position, so far, has been a patriarchal position.

I wanna hear something to indicate that Kerry could be tough under these circumstances (being tough is generally thought to be a masculine trait - something having to do with testerone, I think). That he could lead us, calm our fears, reassure us that he has this under control. His website statement seems pretty wimpy to me.

The Republicans, IMO, wouldn't have control of the entire government if the Dems hadn't been so wimpy these last few years. Just my opinion.

When I saw Bush on TV, and I heard Cheney's quote....the statements struck me as somewhat reassuring that were not going to let the animals dictate our moves. This is when Bush and Cheney are at their best, like right after 9/11. I KNOW they're idiots. But it works. I just thought, "You know, I'd like to hear something that resolute come from Kerry. Something strong like that." We are, after all, dealing with some resolute and strong terrorists.

Would I vote for a woman? You bet. History has shown that women can be pretty darn tough leaders. Queen Elizabeth, Margaret Thatcher come to mind. (Women have testosterone, too.) The President is like a father figure, but many women are heads of households in this country. If Hilary runs, I'll probably vote for her.

11. I forgot to say, re JFK.
I forgot to say that, yes, I DO vaguely remember JFK. Just vaguely. But I've seen probably every documentary ever made about him and the Kennedys.

He was a very macho figure, IMO. Big, strong, strong voice, articulate, physical, very strong statements, war hero, wrote a best selling and acclaimed book when he was still very young. Ladies man. Good looking. He oozed macho. Just my take on him. Interesting thing about the Kennedys: Even the women are strong....except that they put up with unbelievable behavior from their husbands. When it comes to that, they were trained to look the other way. Which makes them ultimately weak (the Kennedy women, that is).

8. gawd...no more "macho"
Talking tough and pretending to be a bad-ass is not "maschismo" anyway.
Thats just plain brutality they are not the same. Fake "machismo" has given us 850 dead soldiers, 10,000 dead civilians, prisoners with lit cigarettes stuffed in their ears, and ya know what? I don't feel ANY more "safer" because of it all.

10. women are turned off by fake macho acts
kerry will just be himself. but he isn't going to put on any act as bush does. there was an article out recently which showed that women were disgusted by bush's macho act. i'm sure because much of it is fake and he is really a coward who hid on 9/11 and during vietnam and many other times. he talks tough while being in a safe place.

12. This is what scares me.......
What if they kidnap an American woman and cut off her head?
Or a child?

You can't carpet bomb the whole Middle East, can you?

13. Kerry ought to say:
He has a secret plan to get rid of the terrorists and end the Iraqi occupation.

I've seen it work magic on the sheeple a number of times. Just tell 'em you have a plan. Don't get into details. Just "I have a plan."

As for macho.... it only works in sports (using macho language). The theorem in geo-politics is 'Walk softly but carry a big stick'. Secret plans are a big stick that can't be questioned. Americans love secrets.
