1. Even the state department didn't know about it. Maybe they will change
their WH web pages to include this now retroactively?
As Olbermann said "it must have been a report from their EXTREMELY effective Secret Service... the same secret service that prevented the Chechen attack on their theater in Moscow."

2. Useful links
The following are a series of useful links that others posted and I saved yesterday. These links discredit Putin's comments.

In the first link, Putin states his support for the United States in the War against Terrorism but argues against including Iraq in the War against Terrorism. He also stated that there were no "international terrorists" under Saddam Hussein. See http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200312/s1013128.htm for more information.

In the second link, Putin denied that Saddam Hussein was financing terrorism as early as 2001. See http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/1218-03.htm for this story (it originally appeared in the Washington Post).

In 2003, the United States requested that Russia freeze Saddam Hussein's Russian bank accounts. According to Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, "we can freeze accounts if they are used to finance terrorism or money laundering activities," but "there are no facts linking Saddam Hussein's accounts in Russia to such activities." See http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030321-022040-6046r for the entire story.

If you did not see the story about the State Department not receiving Putin's warning, see http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=5460304&pageNumber=0 for more information.
