DC on Tuesday, Rush Holt, rally for verified voting, delivering petitions.
This Tuesday, Democracy for America will be delivering its Count Every Vote petition to Congress -- and you can be a part of it.

More than 125,000 Americans have signed the petition calling for accountability in our election process. And this Tuesday we will deliver it to lawmakers at a rally on Capitol Hill with Members of Congress and other grassroots organizations who support making sure that every vote is counted.

Rep. Rush Holt, who sponsors the leading verified voting bill in the House, will be speaking at the rally to urge the movement of his legislation from the House Administration Committee for immediate consideration by Congress. We must act now so that we can have a voting process with integrity in place for the November elections. Rep. Holt will be joined by representatives from Democracy for America, MoveOn, True Majority, Common Cause, Rock the Vote and VerifiedVoting.org.

Time is running out to make sure that every voter can verify their choice and that every race can be recounted by election officials. Please join the Democracy for America grassroots at the delivery of our petition and the accompanying rally. Don't forget to wear your Democracy for America gear!

I don't see sign up spots at the other sites yet. This was just posted today. I hope people near DC can take part in the rally on Tuesday.

2. Careful...they are asking for a paper trail.
when what we really want...is a paper ballot.

They changed their minds quick. Just yesterday they were calling for paper ballots.

My how fickle.

3. Sorry I posted it .
Tell MoveOn, Tell Verified voting, tell the 125,000 who signed it at Dean's DFA site. There are a couple of others mentioned in my first post as well.

You need to tell them, not me, Andy, as I am only posting that there is rally.

I am not going to take sides on this. I admire all of you voting activists greatly. I do reserve the right to post about the rally.

I am not going to argue anymore with you on this. It is not my field. A lot of us backed out of working with voting groups when all of you started correcting everything we novices say. We try to do the right thing and be activist, but I find it impossible to know which of you are the "rightest."

Congrats on the backbone award. Just post a disclaimer that all these groups are wrong. I do not understand it all. There are a lot of groups to write, so get busy by Tuesday.

4. Andy, this page says "paper ballot".
Not trying to be difficult, but I see the word ballot here. This is why a lot of people fail to get involved in this issue. It is a complex issue, and whenever I post about it I wish I had not. I have tried to work with several of the groups, sending out info, writing reporters, etc. I just gave up out of total confusion. Could you tell me where you saw the words "paper trail" here?

VerifiedVoting.org Action Alert

Join Us June 22 in D.C. for Voter-Verified Paper Ballot Rally

Dear Friends of Verified Voting:

Thank you for all the support you've given in order to ensure that we have reliable and publicly verifiable election systems.

This Tuesday, June 22, you can take another important action. Please join New Jersey Rep. Rush Holt, other members of Congress, nationwide organizers from VerifiedVoting.org, MoveOn, TrueMajority.org, and other election reform advocates at a rally in Washington, D.C., to support Voter-Verified Paper Ballots (VVPBs).

National Rally for Voter Verified Paper Ballots
Tuesday, June 22, 2004
11:45am to 1:00pm

Cannon Terrace, just south of the U.S. Capitol,
between Cannon and Longworth House Office Buildings
(At the corner of New Jersey and Independence)
Nearest Metro station: Capitol South

The decisions Congress makes in the next month will determine what voting systems many Americans will use this November and for years to come. Americans should not have to vote on paperless touchscreen machines that have malfunctioned and are vulnerable to malicious hacking.

Rep. Holt's HR2239, the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2003, would require e-voting machines to include a VVPB by Novemberor to provide a paper ballot alternative if states can't retrofit the machines with a paper trail by then. This important bill already has 141 co-sponsors, but is stuck in committee.

Show up and be heard: tell Congress to break the logjam so HR2239 and other VVPB legislation can come to a vote and pass. Let's tell Congress that we want to know for sure that our votes count.

Please join us on Tuesday.

If you can come to the rally, send email to pam@verifiedvoting.org to let us know how many of you are attending.
