This has sure been a rough week
Personally it has just been rough. Nothing major, just tons of small things all going wrong. Little problems that I am having a hard time taking care of. The news stories also seem to be hitting me especially hard. So many stories finally coming out, and the media is actually picking up on a lot of it.

Funny thing is I have talked to several people that have said the same thing. They are just tired, having a tough week, having a hard time handling the little things. I even know a couple of people that went on vacation to get away from it all and relax, just to come back home feeling worse than when they left. There seems to be an overall sense of exhaustion.

Do you think that maybe people have finally had enough? However, it doesn't seem to be anger, but just sadness, and/or a major case of the blahs that I am sensing from people. Has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just me and my little corner of the world?

1. Well, for me
The energy has been extremely high this week. Some folks I know have had trouble sleeping. Work for folks has been extremely hectic. There are a lot of things going on, and not just on this plane-I've heard this from more than one source (getting mystical on you here, but it is part of the whole equation). The thing to do is to concentrate on the positive. Reach out to those who are expressing dissatisfaction with Shrubco and give them information to confirm their suspicions. We can win.

4. Trying to stay positive
It just seems that so many are exhausted and sad and that this past week has hit especially hard.

2. Me too.
I was awakened this morning by the Air Force, as a swarm of black helicopters raced East in a thunderous rush. I opened the newspaper this morning and wondered if I was still asleep and dreaming. From the little stories to the large, events are odd and inexplicable. Good sense, civility and personal decency seem to have evaporated from our lives.

I attribute part of this to Bush's "jobless" recovery. I, personally, know how that's been achieved: those of us with jobs are doing the work of 2 or 3, keeping our employers wealthy on sheer willpower alone. I wonder if it's a strategy: keep the proles exhausted, and they won't be able to think about how their society is being ripped apart. We know, we sense, that things are truly horrible, but we're too engrossed in trying to survive until that vacation, to look up and do the analysis.

5. I am sure being over worked is a lot of it.
With so many layoffs, and cutbacks, those still working are struggling to just keep up. I am just sensing so many people "tired" at the same time.

"those of us with jobs are doing the work of 2 or 3, keeping our employers wealthy on sheer willpower alone."

It's happening everywhere that American workers are becoming exhausted, while the execs keep getting richer by our labor. And those of us out of work (I just lost my work Monday) are so discouraged and disheartened about job prospects that we are in shock. THERE'S NOTHING OUT THERE! No real JOBS....certainly no career positions!

I'm at a total loss about what we can do about it. Venus has been retrograde since May 17th, and she'll go direct again on June 29th. That should help a great many of us FEEL a little better, even if it won't change the situations we confront in our world every day.

At least we've got DU!!!!

Ooops! Edited for wrong month!

Yes, a rough week. And besides personal setbacks, I'm just sick at heart and so discouraged that the Bush admin continues to perpetrate fraud against us, people continue to die, and we seem to be helpless to stop it. I've felt hopeless and helpless before over the last three years, but I've reached a new low. Every awful thing that has happened and there is still no critical mass at which point they self-destruct.

{Edited for a typo}

6. Seems to be really going around.
Hope things get better for you, and all of us soon.

With the way that the media is now asking tough questions (sometimes anyway) maybe bushie and his gang will have to answer for what they have done.

7. Anger here.
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 12:45 PM by Lestat
Angry at what happened yesterday. Angry with the whole administration. Angry that Bush lied to the Americans about the Osama/Saddam connection, even after the 9/11 panel proved otherwise.

I feel like punching out the wall. :grr:

9. Maybe Democrats will get it through their heads
that everytime they incontravertibly nail Bush on an issue in which he has lied... an American will be beheaded.

Kings used to put them on pikes at the front gates.
Now we put them on TV.

well... it seems that way sometimes.

10. Don't know if it's any consolation to you, but...
I'm in counseling for a number of reasons and awhile back, finally unloaded on my therapist about how upsetting the current situation (wacko Bushies, results of their actions, stupid war, people dying, etc.) has been for me. She told me she has many clients who are experiencing the same thing, and for me that was somewhat of a consolation. She took the liberty of telling me about an upcoming John Kerry meet-up in my town, which I attended. I was amazed to hear how disquieted so many folks there are about the administration and several mentioned that for the first time as Americans, they are truly afraid. Though I have seen this response often on DU, it was the first time I'd personally encountered folks who feel that same way. I'm still in counseling, still working through a lot of things, and actually not too positive about the future, but in all respects, we must keep the faith and keep TRYING!

Hang in there, everybody!

Tired Old Cynic (and tired of being one!)

11. I need it
but no insurance to pay for it..My mom has first signs of Alzhelimers..... .shes been diagnosed with "sundowning".I live in Fl.and my siblings live in NY.They are tending to her...She can't be left alone and day nurses cost so much. The nursing homes are giving them a hard time.saying her Medicare won't cover the cost.

also my brother in NY.is in hospice..has cancer and a month to live.he can't speak because of the tumor on his throat.and VA butchered him top the point where his flesh is hanging out....I can't afford to fly to NY...I'm in the process of writing my thoughts to him in my final good-bye.and its hard.

Our sub contracting business is losing customers because of the cost of gas and other costs raising where our customers are choosing between getting their homes spayed for fleas and roaches or eating......
The country is in a mess......and I am petrified that bush will somehow manage to win the election....and more soldiers will die.I have sons who served in the army and have been out for 3 years......

Yea I need something...............

14. I just keep waiting for the SH** to come down on Bush...
and it keeps not happening. More and more awful things happen, and the polls stay the same (I've seen about as many that show Bush gaining as Kerry... don't get why the polls are so out of synch with each other).

Thanks for posting... thought it was just me. I can't do anything, tired of applying for jobs and getting no calls, tired of housework, blah blah blah.

16. You're right -- everytime we get our hopes up...
that the majority of people are "on to" Bush and his cabal, and have had it with them, a poll comes along that shows us still 50/50, at best.

And personally, I regret seeing the country I've known slipping away. Not only has Bush taken us far down the path of destruction in four short years, but the American middle class seems to be disappearing. Designer clothes and million dollar houses are selling like hotcakes to a few, but I'm afraid the rest of America is headed toward WalMart clothes, MacJobs, and little chance for young people to own a first home.

And it's not just the U.S. I am living most of the time for a few years, in a city abroad that used to be hopping with Americans, and a neighborhood that used to be enlivened with students and part-time residents from Arab countries. Since 9/11, the neighborhood is quiet, and the restaurants often empty. Fewer Americans visit, and the citizens of Arab countries who studied and lived here part-time are, I believe, fearful, and come for brief visits only.

I don't know how to calculate the enormity of the consequences of our blowing the chance to build on the good will that came our way after 9/11. If we had not abandoned Afghanistan -- if, instead of heading for Iraq, we had gotten Osama there, and helped that country in the way we promised -- we would have shown both strength and humanity to the Muslim world. If we had made use of our allies, who have far more experience in the Middle East than we do, instead of cowboying it alone, we would have even stronger alliances, and we would be safer.

When Madonna endorsed Wes Clark for President, she said she wanted her children, as Americans, to be able to travel the world both proudly and safely. That resonated with me because my opportunity during my time abroad, with the ability to travel a short distance to see places I've wanted to see all my life, is diminished because I can't travel to many of these places proudly and safely as an American.

Still, my private grievances are very small at this point, compared to the difficulties and tragedies experienced by many here. My heart goes out to all who have shared what they are going through. Our grief for our country is similar, however. Probably the only thing I share with Madonna is the hope that my American children can live in a country they can be proud of, and a safer world.

15. Hell yeah.
I had a crazy week as well. Just working too hard, too many little frustrations, feeling exhausted, not even having time to exercise.

When so many people experience the same thing at the same time, I assume it's astrological.

17. kadie, you're not alone. i'm thoroughly spent. it just never ends.
it's been a hard week for me too. i am easing up on politics and news altogether for the next couple of weeks. i've been angry about it for some time and i still am. just not as much and more tired. anger sucks alot of energy out of ya. will go see F911 and if possible, try to see big dog at a book signing in LA. but that will be the extent of it for me.

hang in there everyone. it's going to be a bumpy ride this summer.

19. Just a constant feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop
Seems like whenever we start to relax something major happens. Don't know if I will be at ease until this administration is gone. For me it is a sense of urgency more than anger. I love this country and can't stand what the neocons are doing to it. It's righteous indignation, I guess would be the best way to put it. I can't sit by and do nothing, but really what can I do? I think I will be better when the campaign is in full swing and I can spend a lot of my time volunteering.

20. Yes. It's widespread stress.
The definition of stress is worrying about things that affect you, but that you can't control. I'd say the whole nation is under huge stress right now. And stress saps our energy.

I've quit watching any television news. The chirpy voices of the talking heads were getting on my last nerve.

I'm making comfort food for dinner tonight (meat loaf, homemade mac & cheese) and we're watching a movie (something light, maybe a romantic comedy.)

I know it's escapist, but I'm tired of worrying about everything.

21. channel those feelings
Don't wait for the other shoe. Don't allow yourself to be victimized by the chaos created by Bushco.

1. Gain some control over the chaos by some act, large or small, that repudiates the victim status and claims the high ground. It could be as simple as wearing a button on your lapel (I saw some great ones for a buck today).

2. Find like-minded people for a support group.

3. Or take a break and just seek beauty and quiet for a week.

4. Or throw yourself fully into the effort to dump Bush.

Remember, Bush's old secret society at Yale teaches its members that manufactured chaos is a great skill. Let's not give in!

Solidarity!
