BBV: Rough draft of BBV commercial
Meanwhile... It's still rough, but it's a start....

We MUST get this issue aired... And the WhorePress don't seem willing (even now) to tell the truth. So it's gotta be a commercial/PSA. One that is seen by ALOT of people.

How do we get it funded?

1. We need to brainstorm...
On funding options for this piece. True Majority is an option, as is MoveOn.Org. And VerifiedVoting.org has seen it and expressed interest.

We MUST get a more final version of this PSA on the air.... soon.

2. Some comments
No one at Fox News has been indicted, so I don't think they should be included in the list of liars.

The word 'recount' is evocative but doesn't capture the real issue - that without a voter-verified printout, there is nothing to stop a company from manipulating the vote.

4. thanks
for the feedback, JP.

We've gone 'round and 'round about what people/logos to use. We settled on the best NON-partisan compromises. I truly hate it that Martha Stewart is there... and Clinton too, for that matter. But this PSA must reach the widest audience possible.

As to FAUX NEWS..... fuck em. They are fair game, imo.

13. Bottom line
We need funding. I put it here to brainstorm to that end.

That's the ONLY thing that matters.

If we have funding, we'll have lawyers to vet it.

Andy, the PSA clearly refers to paper BALLOTS, not paper TRAIL.

Again, we're talking 30 seconds here. Can't get too technical.

It's good.

Paper sign-in is also important.

I'm not suggesting you add it to your ad, but if a compnay provides the voting machines and electronic sign-in, it can fake the number of people who voted and design the machine to print fake ballots, if the model is printing ballots behind a box.

Unfortunately, California standards chose printing the ballots behind a box, instead of letting the voters deposit the ballots in a box.

5. Thanks, Eric
We've had about a hundred different versions of the script. The problem is condensing the core problem into a 30 second commercial.

BUT.... I think going to PAID advertising/PSA is the ONLY way we're going to get this problem covered. The WhorePress are only nibbling at the edges.

And we NEED a solution BEFORE November.

I know you can't cover everything in the ad.

I just meant that you might cover paper sign-in on your website.

15. That's awesome.
I don't think funding the production of it should be too tough. There's enough lefties out there in the video production community that someone should agree to shoot and cut it pro-bono.

It's funding the airtime that will be a bitch. Of course, with some good PR, we can get Tweety and Aaron and maybe even Faux to show it in a news segment for free. (Which is one good reason for keeping the Faux logo in. They'll be livid. Look what that did for Lies And The Lying Liars.)

18. Terrific. One comment -
I know we've all been using "Voter Verified Paper Ballot." I know that's what we want.

But it's too verbose.

Why can't we just call it a Paper Ballot?

Whether the Paper Ballot is produced by a computer, or by punching a card, or by marking with a pencil, should not matter. All that matters is that a PAPER ballot exists for each vote cast.

Good point, Steph.

I think, though, that in this war of words, that the Voter Verified part of the phrase reminds people that they SHOULD have some sort of oversight as to how their ballot is cast.

I dunno. I see your point but can argue it both ways. It'd be nice to save a few seconds on the commercial so I can have the "*blip*-blue-screen-of-death" ending that I wanted. ;-)

however, there should be no wriggle room.

Voter Verified...as in you look at it and verify it.

Paper Ballot...well you know that definition.

25. I know, but it's not good for a TV ad
Listen to it again - it's too much. You can use the whole phrase in print but you have to consider shortening it for TV.

30. Also check out the billboards that are already up in Austin
sponsored by the Coalition for Visible Ballots. Has a cartoon of a woman pushing a vote on a touch screen, and a kid sitting behind it with a laptop, changing the votes.

Got TV coverage the first week it was up; hit the front cover of the Austin Statesman last Sunday, with a 2 1/2 page article. What was especially ironic: In Austin they use Hart Intercivic, and Hart is based in Austin, yet the media is focusing on the billboards and giving the spokespeople for Coalition for Visible Ballots the opportunity to rebut Hart's answers.
