This is the last straw.
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 02:00 PM by Lestat
I'm so upset and angry about what the country has come to in the last three years or so. There has been a lot of "1984-ish" fear that has arisen and I'm sick of it.

Bush tried to use fear to justify his war in Iraq when he said Saddam had WMD and our freedoms were in jeopardy. He's also using the fear about another possible 9/11 attack to pass Patriot Act II so we can snoop on our neighbors to figure out if their terrorists or not. There's a lot of other fears out there today, but I don't want to point all of them out because you already know and I think you get my point.

The thing that really pisses me off is what I have read here in GD about a man who needs to go to the movies with a gun in fear of being killed by Repukes. He's been getting death threats because of his opposing views in politics. Movie theater owners have also been getting death threats because they may play the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 in their theaters.

We need to stop these Repukes from running our lives on fear. We need to stand up to them and tell them we're not afraid. What they're afraid of is the truth coming out. They know they'll be ruined if the truth does come out into the public. That's the main reason why they're trying to silence us.

I'm sick of it. :grr: :(

Thank you for reading my rant. I had to get this off my chest.

2. i hear ya, i delayed putting my Kerry sticker on my car
and when I finally realized that is was fear of vandalism that was stopping me, I got pissed

I am sporting my sticker proudly and have a spot on the other side all ready for the full ticket once the VP is selected. and when I do that, I'll put my DU sticker in the middle for a nice symmetrical statement

I am refusing to keep quiet when I hear blatant BS by RWer;s and am loud and proud! I refuse to live in fear anymore and the Bushes can kiss my grits

7. I haven't been brave enough to put one my DU sticker yet, but not
because I'm afraid of vandalism. I'm afraid of not getting any work. I've already been shut out of one area because a worker there has spread the word that I'm a bleeding heart liberal who might contaminate them.

However, I make comments in the checkout line and such.

9. all must judge their own situation
if you have valid reasons for not putting a sticker on your car, perhaps a yard sign?

19. i'm glad to hear you feel safe in your neighborhood,
I'd put up a yard sign but I live in a cul de sac far from the main roads and my neighbors already all know I'm the precinct person for the Dems..... waste of a good sign in my yard i fear LOL

4. Speaking of Fear..
Just read in the Guardian where yet another US ex-intelligence official writes that al-qaeda plans an attack in the US pre-election day to "help" Bush win, as he's the best thing that ever happened to them. In a rational world, such an attack should have the opposite effect in the US, underscoring the lie of Bush's "homeland security" doctrine..

13. Well it was the repukes who flogged the notion that AQ
controlled the outcome of the Spanish election. If AQ now has that notion its because the reukes planted it. The Spanish electorate was incensed that the government tried to pin the bombing on Basque separtists and that was why Aznar and his cronies got booted out.

BTW bill welcome to DU. :hi:

15. Good point.. how do you suppose..
..the Spanish elections would have gone if Anzar had blamed the bombings on AQ from the beginning. It's always been my assumption (or perhaps my delusion) that the overall outcome of the election would have been the same with or without bombing, with only the margin of victory different..

20. It was a stunning defeat. No one anticipated Aznar's defeat.
The lie brought down his gov't. So rather than report how electorates hate being lied to especially about terrorist attacks), the story is hyped to spread the message that terrorists won. Which is stunningly stupid because it gives magnifies the terrorists accomplishments and hands them a victory. The moral of story ought to have been it doesn't pay for gov'ts to lie and dismiss any notion that terrorists scored a victory.

For that is exactly what they are. Rant away, rant loud, and rant often. Here is exactly who they are:

21. Yes, they look more and more like that....
Just a few years ago people like Michael Savage and Ann Coulter
would be laughed off the air. As their kind become increasingly
legitimate, we become closer to allowing our country's Brownshirts
to have real power. That is a very scary thing.

6. I'm hedging my bets in Costa Rica
I bought a condo in Costa Rica recently. If the Republicans eventually succeed in their goal of converting America into a fascist theocracy, I will at least have somewhere to go. I'm willing to take up arms to defend Democracy in America, but I want my wife and kids to be safe while I'm fighting.

I will not allow Bush or any Republican to take my sons to die in illegal and immoral wars for profit. I want them to live in peace, or failing that, to be able to one day fight to restore freedom in the land of their birth.

8. What a coincidence
My friend (who happens to be a Libertarian-leaning Republican) loves to vacation in Costa Rica. Went there on his honeymoon and everything. But he's a really nice guy, so I'm sure he won't bother you there. }(

11. Get this:
Fahrenheit 9/11 is going to play in College Station, Texas.

COLLEGE FREAKING STATION, TEXAS.

Home of Texas A&M University, one of the most proudly conservative schools in the country. Their way or the highway, motherfucker.

Yep. College Station. THAT should be fun!!!

14. This is why
we started Take Back the Media and put everything we have into it.. even to the point of mortgaging our home and moving into a smaller unit in a safer locale (once again in case the US gets too fascist)

We've put in a lot of effort, creating over 40 flash political attack ads, travelling the country showing films, taping and interviewing presidential candidates, a weekly radio show, and lots more...

wish that Skinner would stick our show up at the top of the page, we have every bit as much credibility and some of the other people listed as radio..

but this site is a godsend and really gets the word out, we need to be thankful for the DU as well..

if you want, you can watch my latest flash movie called "Mourning FOR America"

It compares Bush with Reagan (who doesn't even measure up to the 'gipper') and then shows people exactly how the "Reagan Revolution" screwed the whole country over and what it really did to our nation.
