Ashcroft/Patriot Act nab another dangerous terrorist!

MIAMI (AP) -- A teacher's aide who forgot to put away her marshmallows and hot chocolate at Yellowstone National Park last year was taken from her cruise ship cabin in handcuffs and hauled before a judge Friday, accused of failing to pay the year-old fine.

Hope Clarke, 32, crying and in leg shackles, told the judge she was rousted at 6:30 a.m. by federal agents after the ship returned to Miami from Mexico. She insisted that she had been required to pay the $50 fine before she could leave Yellowstone, which has strict rules about food storage to prevent wildlife from eating human food.

Customs agents meet all cruise ships arriving from foreign ports and run random checks of passenger lists, and a warrant claiming Clarke had not paid the fine was found in the federal law enforcement database.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Outerbridge conceded there were some "discrepancies," but suggested to the judge that Clarke appear in court again to clear up the warrant.

1. "We were acting on what we believed was accurate information."
"We were acting on what we believed was accurate information."

So if she did owe $50, then this arrest would have been appropriate?

Why not mail someone a reminder about owing money, instead of arresting her?

If she gets hold of a good lawyer, this may cost the taxpayers 10s of thousands of dollars more.

10. I caused a security alarm at US Air
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 04:16 PM by donhakman
To commemorate the foil wrapped cheese incident I wrote this Hymn...

What a friend we have in cheeses
Chedder munster and Guryere
But what a hassle tis to carry
through security at US Air.

O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear
All because we carried cheeses
on board a flight of US Air.

We were fondled and then X-rayed
Because of troubles in the air
The screener had tremendous courage
to plunge his hands in underwear.

Did we seem a fiend unfaithful
who would bomb a plane without a care
Jesus, is our cheese a weakness
in security at US Air.

Are we weak from ol bin Laden
cumbered with a load of care.
The guards ran to seek some refuge
from tin wrapped cheese we had to share.

Do the guards despise and forsake you?
at our air ports everywhere
They are armed and may likely shoot you
if they find some cheese in there.

By the time this made the papers
the head line was in total error.
Bomb found: praise and endless worship
for brave guards, at US Air.

13. Glad to know we aren't the only ones in trouble for loving good cheese
Havocdad cannot get his favorite triple cream Bleu Brest now because of the Patriot Act! Who knew good cheese was a threat to the Fatherland?

Love your little ditty.

Murka, July 2004

The Ashcroftization of Murka is in full swing as patrioteers continue to infocate on their unMurkan neighbors. To date, 20,000 terrists have been apprehended and processed, with the most dangerous of these being delocated. The administration assures us that Murka is gihugically more secure than before the attack by the evildoers on 9/11. Murkens can rest asound that this gummit is control and taking infintessimal steps to assure the stepfordization of all Murken citizens.

25. Are US law enforcement officials sado-masochists?
Why are they obsessed with putting everyone in handcuffs and leg shackles? This was for a (wrong) accusation of not paying a $50 fine, for a completely non-violent transgression. The people who tie up suspects in cases like this surely need psychological help.
