Full text of the memo justifying torture has been leaked
Read the whole deplorable exercise in lawlessness and self-deception at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/documents/dojinterrogationmemo20020801.pdf

The first paragraph alone is espeically laughable. It's hard to believe they buy this stuff, even within the Bush echo chamber.

1. For an administration who purports to be Christian
their embrace of torture belies their supposed beliefs.

17. "cruel, inhuman, or degrading"
in other words it's OK if these are perpetrated on detainees.

Christians? The BushCo gang are Sociopaths with no clue of what being a Christian means. It is uterly disgusting and pathetic that they wrap themselves in Christianity and the American flag.

What we have here is a Right Wing Dictatorship backed by Corporate money, esp. the Multi-Nationals. The crimes that have been commited by this Right Wing Junta are numerous yet it seems that there is little that can be done about that.

2. Quotation from Bush Administration
"Certain acts may be cruel, inhuman, or degrading, but still not produce pain or suffering of the requisite intensity to fall within Section 2340A's proscription against torture."

-The Bush Adminstration, August 1, 2002

7. A bud posted it to me
I couldn't locate it on their main page, either. I have no clue how he found it, but there it is.

Obviously somebody who got the memo has a conscience.

16. Is there anyone in this maladministration..
whose opinion on this matter could not be influenced with about a weeks "detention" and an ordinary dripping faucet? I wish they were only imbeciles.

Jesus does what he's told to do. He's either with us, or he's with the terrorists.

5. What they are essentially saying...

...is that the Administration is completely free to define what is legally torture or not, without check, balance or oversight.

8. This is from the
office of the Assistant Attorney General and is a memorandum for Alberto R. Gonzales, counsel to the president. There is no signature at the end. Does this mean that Gonzales sought legal backup for his determinations in the other memo that he gave to the president? It still doesn't show that Shrub signed an order. (Drat!!!) But it does show that they were intent on plenty of backup legal determinations to uphold their faulty reasoning.

18. I seem to remember
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 07:36 PM by loyalsister
the soldiers being quoted as saying that they were "having fun."

Those words have brand new meaning after reading this memo. According to the WH as long as they say they weren't intending to cause harm it wasn't torture. As soon as they landed in Iraq they were told if you get caught, "you were just having fun."

23. What's surprising is that anyone is surprised.
What's not surprising is the lack of calls by the congress for real accountability with trials for those who authorized it.

I guess they're too busy looking constipated and shedding crocodile tears over the beheading of Johnson - while authorizing higher budgets for the military.
