What is the significance of the ORANGE jumpsuits??? ANYONE?
I do not get the ornage jumpsuits on the dead prisoners.

Orange jumpsuits are an institutional (American) prison uniform which came into fasion big time in the last ten years.

Usually those who have access to these are government and military authorities. The two recent American beheadings both had what is seeming to be a requisite orange jumpsuit.

Somebody said somewhere that this was symbolic somehow.

WTF???

Is there any real info on this or is it urban fiction or are intelligence contractors doing these killings as ordered by Cheney, Rumsfeld and Dumbwad?

2. Somewhere I saw that orange jumpsuits are being used for those
sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia and perhaps other ME countries --which caused those Arabs imprisoned in Gitmo to freak out when given the standard prison garb. Sorry, but I've been doing so much reading and persuing the net today, I don't know where I read that or if it is documented. Perhaps someone else can...

4. I'm sure this explanation is too commonsensical and simple
to have much appeal here, but if I were capturing and killing hostages in order to protest the way the Americans are treating prisoners, then I might dress up those hostages like American prisoners. You know, to help emphasize the point. In a direct, visual way. As in, "You treat our people like this, we'll treat your people the same way."

But I'm sure that's not it. It probably has something to do with the white plastic chairs and the fact that Arabs cannot be fat and only have one skin shade and never wear sneakers, etc.

8. It seems to me that is what everyone on this thread thus far is saying....
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 07:38 PM by hlthe2b
That use of orange jumpsuits on American hostages underscores their message re: to American imprisonment of Arabs (and the abuse scandal)

While I realize that there have been some conspiracy threads in recent weeks, that does not seem to be the case on this thread. Perhaps you could be just a bit less judgemental towards your fellow DU posters?

15. OMG, NOOOOOOooooo
Hmmm... orange jumpsuits, White Plastic Throne of Satan (love that, btw)...
Orange... white
Orange and White...

UT's school colors are orange and white...

And from their website, both Warren Buffett and the PM of Jordan have ties to the school... of course, the school also has a space institute ( http://www.utk.edu/text/aboutut.shtml ) ... and Bush is talking about ramping up the space program...

I think we may be on to something here~

6. As someone pointed out on one of the many Berg threads,
orange prison jumpsuits are available online for anyone who wants to buy them. They're not only available to law enforcement or prison types.

I don't know about orange, but I believe green is considered a sacred color in Islam. It never appears in rugs, because it would be blasphemous to walk on.

9. It is hard to hide if you are wearing orange.
Orange stands out against just about anything. To top it off, a prisoner will go crazy trying to rhyme words with orange.

21. That's simple
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 01:02 AM by seventhson
with a British accent and a silent "h" the answer is "door hinge"

for example:

I had this dream:

while talking with men who are bad

I got my ass caught on a door 'inge

I wasn't so sad, til I noticed I had

a jump suit the color of orange

The men tied me 'tween two bunk beds

identifying themselves as the feds

in my jumpsuit of orange, released from the door 'inge

They said :"Allahu Akbar"!
and
"Off with their heads!"

(Then they said "Cut")

May all the victims of Bush's pernicious war rest in peace.

11. Still no Real Good Answers NEED HELP
I do not understand this

those who claim it is a color of shame -- DO YOU HAVE SOURCES OR IS THIS A MYTH???

do you think these guys are really islamists or are they cia?

mayber this was done to somehow confirm berg's killing as isdlamist (another set up with consistent colors?

Is there an "official" or official terrorist explanation

or is everyone just blowiong smoke.

It smells like blackops

or something done to cloud the issue with berg who was clearly imho a bushzi hit.

13. Think about it
You're CIA. You want to pull off a black op. Would YOU put berg and Johnson in orange jumpsuits? If I were trying to fool the world I would put them in clothes like those of the American hostages in Iran - business clothes or other American garb that was dirty and tattered.

I think (and it's only my opinion) that they do it for the same reason we do it - to make it easier to catch them if they escape captivity. Can't blend into the crowd and get away when dressed in orange. The other possibility is to make them like the Iraqi prisoners.

I just don't think the CIA is THAT dumb.

19. Okay, not trying to turn this into a conspiracy thing, but why does
everyone assume that if it wasn't islamitic fundies that killed berg or johnson, then it had to be cia or pentagon? There are plenty of private security forces in the ME (outsourced security/mercanaries) that a group of them could have committed the crimes. This war is about greed and staying in the war and keeping bushco in office is a corporate interest. The reason Rummey and his bunch have used private security forces is because they don't have to account for their deaths or their actions.

22. But But But...
Suppose Berg was a slip up (from the US run prison)

In order to make it "look" like a pattern, the next one might be made to look like the first (with us KNOWING they could not be that dumb.

Perfect spy vs spy vs spy black operations.

Counterintuitive?

Who the hell knows. These guys have insanity down to an art and Bush I is the master of it. Rummy and Cheney his top goons.

14. easy to spot
Orange is used because it is the easiest color to spot. They're probably using orange in the middle east because that is the color prison jumpsuits are made in these days. I have never heard if it being any kind of color of shame in the middle east before.

Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 01:13 AM by graham67
They might be used by county and local (city) jail systems but they aren't typically used in prisons. Inmates wear shirts and pants, not jumpsuits.

24. Supermax
I thought they still used the orange jumpsuits in supermax, which I think is federal. I don't know what the prisoners in, say, Riker's wear though. I have seen them on TV in the denim pants and light blue shirts, but I don't know if that's what they usually wear or not.
